On a dark, summer night Timmy was in his cozy home in a quiet neighbourhood where he knew mostly everyone, except for the small dark house on the corner of his street. The house was supposedly empty, the last people who have entered the property have mysteriously vanished. Sitting in the corner of his bed, Timmy scrolls through his Instagram feed until an ad catches his eye.
You have millions of dollars waiting for you! it reads. Without hesitation, Timmy clicks on what he believes is his unfound fortune and is led to a website full of flashy buttons. Timmy continues to obey the website s instructions and enters in his personal information, when suddenly he receives a text message. You have millions of dollars waiting for you! A vehicle will be here to pick you up tomorrow night. Follow all instructions and you will be directed to your millions of dollars. A vehicle will be here to pick you up tomorrow night. Timmy, filled with curiosity decides to wait until the following morning to discuss the situation with his mom before meeting a stranger.
The next morning came. Hey, Mom! You won t believe what I found last night! I ve discovered that I have millions of dollars waiting for me! Timmy exclaimed. With hesitation, Timmy s mom quickly responded, Timmy, don t believe anything you see on the internet. There are too many dangerous situations that you could be opening yourself up to. Timmy refuses to accept his mom s directions, but replies Okay, mom. I don t know what I was thinking. And left for school.
That night, the sun fell, and night time had arrived. Timmy had been curious about the messages that had been sent the previous night all day at school. He d decided that he wanted the risk and refused to listen to his mom s instructions. The night grew darker and Timmy received another message from the same anonymous number. Ensure that nobody is following you It read. As the clock ticked to 11pm, Timmy could hear his parents snoring, a perfect time to escape.
As the time began getting closer and closer to 12am, Timmy picked up his phone, grabbed his jacket and quietly opened just enough of an angle of the door to get outside and wait for the vehicle. A couple minutes later, as the clock hit 12 a vehicle pulled up. There was no sign of any driver, or human being aboard the car. Timmy carefully opened the door and got in. The car began driving by itself, following all the laws just like a human driver. As the car began slowing down not too far away from his very own home, he had recognized the destination. It was the home that had been rumoured to mysteriously take dozens of lives.
Leaving the car, Timmy could barely walk in a straight line, trembling in horror. He had not expected a promise for millions of dollars to end up in a life-threatening situation. He showed instant regret but decided that he had no option but to enter the weak, squeaky home. He slowly but carefully climbed the steps, leading to the big piece of plywood that had been covering the entrance and kicked the plywood over. As he entered, suddenly big white lights began to blind him, and the words Timmy, don t believe anything you see on the internet. There are too many dangerous situations that you could be opening yourself up to. In his mom s tone just kept repeating, repeating and repeating in his mind as he fell to the ground.
