What is a confined Space? Any place, including any chamber, culvert, tank, vat, silo, pit, trench, sewer, flue, well or similar space in which virtue of its enclosed nature, there arises a reasonably foreseeable SPECIFIED RISK
Specified Risks Defined in the regulations 1. Loss of consciousness arising from exposure to gas, fume, vapour or the lack of oxygen 2. Loss of consciousness arising from an increase in body temperature 3. Serious injury from fire or explosion 4. Drowning as a result of engulfment by liquids or solids
Requirements for Working in a Confined Spaces Must comply with the Confined Spaces Regulations Required measures must be put in place to establish and maintain a safe system of work No work must take place until the safe system of work is operational
Work in Confined Spaces (CS) and Danger to Life o Comply with the Confined Spaces Regulations o safe systems of work must be in place, including Making sure access to breathing quality air You are competent to do work in CS
