A few responses:

Positive
:  "
I strongly support the use of automated speed and red light enforcement technology to protect children in and
around public and private schools in Syracuse. As a retired teacher residing on South Salina Street near Meacham Elementary
School, I regularly see vehicles speeding through, even passing other vehicles, in the school zone during school days. I have
also witnessed dangerous driving, speeding and illegally passing other vehicles across a double line, near Clary Middle School
and the Syracuse Academy of Science.

My primary concern is not with the use or efficacy of the technology itself. My primary reservation is that the Syracuse Police
Department will not aggressively follow-up to issue tickets or even arrests for drivers endangering the lives of children. Given
the current staffing shortage of Syracuse Police officers, I am afraid that even if speeders and reckless drivers are identified that
they will not be prosecuted in a timely fashion.

Traffic laws are only effective when they are diligently and vigorously enforced. This proposed technology is worthless unless
city officials and police officers make a genuine commitment to the protection of children and assign resources to pursue and
punish dangerous drivers."

A few responses:

Negative
"
Strongly disagree. Sounds noble in its presentation yet behind it is government overreach and a money grab for
the city. If you want to assist and educate try putting up speed monitors to remind drivers to slow down as this is a school area.
The arm device at the bus stop may be helpful."

Neutral/Question
:
Response 1:
"This technology is a great new safety tool but it will only lead to millions of dollars in unpaid fines by the already
poverty stricken residents.. safety will improve maybe, but how do you worsen poverty for safety? This will lead to a huge
headache trying to collect fines from people who barely have gas in their car."

Response 2:
"I think we need to define the problem we are trying to solve. How many crashes in school zones has the city had
in the past few years that were caused primarily by drivers exceeding the limit and cars passing stopped buses? Let's not
measure the problem by number of violators but by the actual consequences. How will we know if this program is successful?
What other engineering improvements have been evaluated? For instance, if crashes near a school are caused by inadequate
signs or visibility, why not make those improvements first? Why not try increasing the visible presence of enforcement first?

How are we going to identify drivers or do we just blame car owners? Specifically distinguishing identical twins or cars
registered to companies or missing plates? Why is it acceptable and fair to enforce only against drivers and cars that can be
identified? Is policing for profit really the way we want to go?"

Drone Technology – SPD through a LETECH grant
"The deployment of drones will be in two manners, a stationary drone that will launch from a
set location and fly to the scene of an emergency call or a drone in a trunk where an officer can
quickly deploy a drone and begin flying over the location of an emergency call."
