  3. Bylaws: Article 5 Membership and Dues See handhout Know your bylaws Local PTA dues + NCPTA dues + National PTA dues = Member Annual Dues Submit dues to the State Office by the 15th of each month

  4. Promote Plan your campaign (build a committee) o Slogan o Incentives o Outreach goals and plans o It s about your PTA, not the membership drive Set goals o Numbers o Target a Population Communicate o Flier w/envelope o Email through Teachers o Connect Ed o Thermometer o The good work of PTA

  5. Slogans Make Your Child s Day Join PTA! Real Men Join PTA Joining PTA means Sweet Success Got PTA? Where are U in PTA? Blank PTA - Not Your Mother's PTA Blank PTA - All That's Missing Is You (could use puzzle) Every Child, One Voice Your voice

Incentive Ideas Teacher Incentives o Signs for outside classroom o Giveaways o Jeans passes/ casual day (with Principal s permission) o Engage them in creating a membership theme Class or school incentives o Engage Principal in creating an incentive o Kickball party, in-school field trip Individual incentives o Think monthly o Giveaways o Programs for their children

Record Create your Excel spreadsheet NCPTA requires o First name (column A) o Last Name (column B) o Email (recommended) (column C) o Type of Member (column D) Follow the NCPTA Database instructions to upload your members o Members can be emailed from the database! o Membership Database Collect and submit dues o Two counters then straight to Treasurer for deposit o Dues to NCPTA by the 15th of each month

  8. Retain Give out cards and any other promised incentives in a timely matter Thank your members for joining! Continue to thank members by communicating throughout the year and make them feel needed Ask their opinion about what they would like to see PTA doing for children/families Personally invite them to events

  9. Most Important is TEAMWORK Whole Board of Directors must promote PTA o This cannot be done by the Membership chair alone! Get your whole PTA board thinking differently communicate more, be transparent, reach out Talk about what being a PTA means. What does being a PTA member mean? Personally ask people don t be afraid, think about how you would feel if someone asked you o Create a value proposition what s in it for them o Develop a one minute elevator speech (3 great things about your PTA and 1 thing that makes your PTA unique) Remember the T in PTA o Teachers are a great resource and want to feel part of the plan

  10. Why do people join PTA?? They like the programs offered to children/families They want to help provide resources for classroom use They believe in the mission of advocating for every child They like to volunteer They want to make friends They want to know more about the school

  12. Celebrate Achievements Apply for membership awards! Honor Roll( Memberships last year and paid by November 15th) Bronze Acorn (10% increase in Membership sold over last year, paid by March 15th) Silver Acorn (memberships sold student enrollment by March 1) Ruby Acorn (100% full time teacher membership by March 1) Gold Acorn (memberships sold student enrollment + 100% Full time teachers by March 1) President s Bowl (PTA unit with the highest percentage increase over the previous year) Does your local council have other awards? If so, APPLY!
