BAT aims to achieve a balanced long-term budget by 2018 while increasing the total number of professorships by 3 positions. Through actions focused on maintaining teaching activities, recruiting PhD students, reinforcing research-based education, and prioritizing externally funded activities, BAT plans to enhance its academic standing and collaboration with industry. Discussions are underway to bring in new professorships and target a minimum of 2 externally funded positions by the end of 2015.

Strengthening of BAT Purpose Action Actions 2014/2015 Maintainactivity within teaching and recruit more Phd Students from NTNU masters students Maintainposition in terms of needs from industry BAT remains excellent study option for Bygg students at NTNU Provide assistance to areas lacking resources in teaching (Anleggsteknikk), as well as increase PhD-MSc interaction to recruit PhDs from MSC students Gradually increase numberof PhD students to reflect IVT goals ( 3 PhD students/FVA). Reinforce research based education Balance LTB throughincreased revenues on BOA and increased revenues in IFM Continuedrecruitmentof PhD students and Post docs through NFR, H2020, SVV, JBV and other external funding channels Strengthenacademic record for proposals Reinforce research based education Continue focus on publication to reflect focus on research based education Continuedfocus on publications by PhD students as well as increased focus and research activities for MSCs. Reinforce focus on externally funded activities Balance LTB Prioritize BAT fundedRD PhD positions (6 total) as matching contributions for large projects Funding of RD PhDs (2 available) only to be providedwhen they compliment numerous externally fundedPhDs Balance LTB Reinforce focus on externally funded activities By 2017-2018 reduce the numberof Professorships on RD by 2 and replace these with externally funded positions Start discussions and strategy for bringingin new professorships.   3. Potential professorships Area for potential Professorship Work to date Offshore wind- arctic dynamics (MB) Established need for area as a result of work in SAMCOT and NOWITECH. KT and IMT are known to be interested Fire in buildings (BA) Established discussions with Harald Landr to discuss alternatives with industry. Harald Landr and Tore Kvande are following up. Produksjonsteknikk (BA) BAT have previously been in contact with industry consortium about this. Olav Torp and Amund Bruland are following up. Prosjektering/BIM (BA) Ingvald Str mmen approached Statsbygg, however no interest due to Statsbygg s other research activities. BIM is a very relevant area for industry, needs to be followed up. Carl Thodesen to follow up. Asphalt binder technology (VTG) Professor 2 position to be funded by Veidekke in process, potential to develop consortium with them and other indsutry partners to provide professorships Arctic geotechnics (GT) Area is interesting to provide coupling between GT and MB groups, first proposed on 05.08.2014 Concept research program (BA) Concept research program has been approached previously to fund professorship.   4. IVT support BAT needs amazing startup support in terms of research package for industry Example: Fire in building Professorship funded by industry consortium IVT provides funding for: 1 post doc within fire in buildings, and 2 PhD students within fire in buildings
