Also submit the total number of students who took part in the activity using the box provided. Email scoresheets to rshaw@avssp.co.uk using student initials only to adhere to GDPR regulations. HOW TO PLAY Activities are designed to take place during extra-curricular activity and should always be lead by a member of staff to provide a safe and realistic competition experience. All scoring should be completed by a member of staff to ensure accurate results are submitted. There is no limit on the number of students who can complete the challenges. Only one score should be submitted per challenge, per student. Don t worry if your school does not have enough students to fully complete the scoresheet, awards will be presented on an average basis. AWARDS Every student to take part in the Virtual Competition will receive an AVSSP participation certificate, simply record the total number of participants on the final scoresheet. School awards will be available for highest Boys average, Girls average and SEN/D average as well as highest % engagement. Every school taking part will receive a Spirit of the Games certificate to present to a child who most demonstrates the School Games values of Determination, Honesty, Respect, Self-Belief, Teamwork or Passion.

  3. This is a difficult challenge to score highly, lots of DETERMINATION will be needed to achieve the highest score possible. Using a speed bounce mat, a soft hurdle or simply a line on the playground challenge your students to complete as many correct speed bounces over the hurdle in 15 seconds. A correct speed bounce requires both feet to land on the opposite side of the hurdle to where they started. Repeat this process as many times as possible. Ensure children waiting to compete are socially distant where possible. If an athlete lands on top of the hurdle/line or doesn t ground both feet the jump does not count. Hold a participants hands to offer support if necessary. Ask wheelchair users to move the chair past a line and back again Count each correct speed bounce performed, excluding any jumps which do not meet the described criteria. Record the total for each athlete. EQUIPMENT Hold arms out to the side to improve balance during the jump. Try to get as close to the top of the hurdle as possible to save time. Speed bounce mat, soft hurdle or line. Stopwatch/timer

  4. Sprinting is a difficult discipline, encourage athletes to show PASSION for the sport by trying their best to succeed. Mark out a series of 10m lanes using cones or spots. Challenge your athletes to complete 5 shuttle sprints (a total of 50m) in the quickest possible time. Make sure to pass the line at either end of the lane to complete each shuttle. Athletes running outside of their lane or turning before the end of the line should have their attempt voided. Space out your lanes to ensure children don t go to close to one another. If you are working in a small space use 5m shuttles but repeat the process ten times. If you have a large space please limit the shuttles to 10m to mimic Sportshall Athletics racing. Allow pupils to move using any method they wish, or with the support of a member of staff if necessary. Use a stopwatch/timer to record a time for each athlete. Ensure every athlete completes the full 50m course correctly. EQUIPMENT Pump your arms to help build momentum and run quicker. Lean onto your strongest leg when turning to push off into the next shuttle. Cones to mark out shuttle lanes. Stopwatch/Timer.

  5. SELF-BELIEF is important in any sport, aim to throw past your best attempt marker on each attempt. Place a line of cones at one side of your area to form a throwingline . Using a football or basketball challenge your students to chest push the ball as far as they can in a straight line. A chest push is to push the ball from the centre of the chest, with finger tips facing each-other and elbows pointing outwards. Use a beanbag/cone to mark each athlete s best attempt from 3 tries. Allocate one ball to each pupil where possible and make sure to sanitize each ball before working with a different bubble. Measure the best attempt using a tape measure. Ensure athletes stand with their feet together and do not step over the throwing line. Feet must stay planted as though stuck to the floor. Place a marker where the ball landed trying to be as accurate as possible. Measure and record each metres/centimetres. An underarm throwing technique might be more appropriate for some SEN/D athletes. students best attempt in EQUIPMENT Ball Using a size 5 football. Cones to mark the throwing line and to mark best attempts. Tape measure a standard DIY one will do fine. Bend your knees as you prepare to throw the ball. Imagine someone standing on your marker, try to throw it over their head.

  6. Keep an eye out for athletes showing TEAMWORK skills be encouraging their team-mates. Using cones/markers set out a large oval track approximately 10mx5m including a starting point somewhere on the track. Challenge athletes to run as many laps as possible in 2 minutes. Ensure athletes stay on the outside of the track at all times. Walking/stopping to rest is permitted if necessary. Ensure pupils have enough space to overtake eachother safely where necessary. Try removing the time limit and simply asking some athletes to complete a small number of laps. Count the number of laps completed by each athlete only fully completed laps count. If an athlete steps onto the inside of the track at any point they lose 1 lap from their score. EQUIPMENT Run as close to the inside of the track as possible without stepping over the line. Try to run the whole race between a jog and a sprint (3/4 pace) Cones to mark out the players area.
