adding suffixes.

To add –ed, -er and –est:

Change the y to an i.

To add –ing:

Keep the –y.

suffix beginning with a vowel letter):

Drop the –e.

Double the last consonant.

Except:

The letter ‘x’ which is never

instead of doubling it, add ‘k’.
