Lets recap on the spelling rules for adding suffixes. Are you ready?
To add ed, -er and est: Change the y to an i. cry cri cried To add ing: Keep the y. cry crying
To add ed, -ing, -er ,est and y (or any other suffix beginning with a vowel letter): Drop the e. smile smil smiled
A one syllable word ending in a single vowel then a single consonant To add ed, -ing, -er and est: Double the last consonant. pop popp popped Except: The letter x which is never doubled and the letter c , instead of doubling it, add k .
