According to Imam Ali, there are six stages of repentance that individuals must follow to seek forgiveness from Allah. These stages include regretting past actions, decisively committing to change, returning what belongs to others, restoring heavenly rights, practicing self-discipline, and making necessary changes. Each stage is crucial for a sincere and complete repentance process. Repentance is essential before death as belief cannot rely on proof at the final moment. Ayatollah Murtadha Mutahhari discusses these stages in the book "Spiritual Discourses."
