Senior Advising Senior Advising: Information for New Major Spring 2019
SENIORS IN THE OLD MAJOR - PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION! oSpecific course requirements will be shared in your individual senior advising and unofficial grad check to avoid confusion with the new major.
SENIOR ADVISING NEW MAJOR: SPRING 2019 oIndividual Appointments combined with unofficial grad-check oSign-up for a 15 minute appointment using the link that was emailed to you on September 13th oPlease be prompt! oUpdate Graduation Requirements Form prior to appointment oReview your academic progress in Degree Works oCarefully review the Senior Power Point prior to appointment
PLEASE NOTE! oALL courses must be completed prior to final student teaching: EDEL 454. Students may not take ANY other coursework during this semester. oCumulative GPA of 3.0 and passing ALL sections of the PRAXIS are required prior to EDEL 454. No Exceptions! .
COURSE INFORMATION oPlease click on the CRN number for specific course prerequisites, co-requisites, and information. oSCED 475: You must register for the specificlinkedlecture (3 cr.) AND specificlinkedlab (0 cr.). Click on the CRN for the specific Lecture/Lab combination. oSubmit both CRN numbers at the same time to register.
SOCIAL STUDIES/LITERACY PRACTICUM COURSE INFORMATION oSocial Studies/Literacy Practicum Typically this is scheduled during the semester prior to Mathematics/Science Practicum. oWeekly schedule: oTwo days per week (either MW, or TR) on campus taking methods courses: oEDEL 425 Social Studies Methods oEDEL 445 Intermediate Literacy Methods oET 340 Integration of Technology Methods oEDFE 120 Checkpoint and Request for Practicum Placement oEDEL 457 Social Studies/Literacy Practicum - two full days (either MW, or TR) in an elementary school with an elementary teacher (mentor)
MATHEMATICS/SCIENCE PRACTICUM COURSE INFORMATION oMathematics/Science Practicum Typically this is scheduled during the semester prior to Student Teaching. oWeekly schedule: oTwo days per week (either MW, or TR) on campus taking methods courses: oEDEL 420 Mathematics Methods oSCED 475 Science Methods (the lecture & lab are linked!) oEDEL 339 Data Assessment Methods oEDEL 459 Mathematics/Science Practicum - two full days (either MW, or TR) in an elementary school with an elementary teacher (mentor)
CLD TRACK WITH ESL ENDORSEMENT oCLD Academic Track with endorsement requires: oDocumentation of foreign language background (minimum of one year of college-level foreign language) oContact: Susan.Mayer@unco.edu oStudent Teaching must be in an ESL-based school
EDFE 120 REGISTRATION oIn the semester(s) prior to the Social Studies/Literacy Practicum and the Mathematics/Science Practicum oSelect the section of EDFE 120 that lists Dr. Charles Warren as the Instructor. You will receive further information from Dr. Charles Warren. oComplete the request for Placement Survey (resume, Cooperating Teacher Letter) oStudents must have successfully completed EDEL 350 prior to the Social Studies/Literacy Practicum. oYou will register for EDFE 120 TWICE once before the Social Studies/Literacy Practicum, and once before the Mathematics/Science Practicum. oEDFE 120 is due March 20th(forFall 19 Practicum) no exceptions!
EDFE 130 REGISTRATION oRegistration for EDFE 130: oRegister for EDFE 130 in the semester prior to Student Teaching this is needed in order to get a placement for Student Teaching! oRegister for the section that lists Charles Warren and Lynette Kerrigan as the instructors oAttend one mandatory meeting oPlease register for EDFE 130 even if you do not presently have the required GPA (3.0) o Student Teaching Packet is due February 10th(for Fall 19 Student Teaching) oNo exceptions! oA passing score on ALL sections of the PRAXIS is required for EDFE 130 and student teaching (EDEL 454). No exceptions!
GRADE REPLACEMENT IS THE BEST WAY TO RAISE YOUR GPA oThe Grade Replacement Application form must be completed and submitted to the Registrar s Office prior to the semester s drop deadline (Fri., Jan. 18, 2019). oGrade Replacement Application form can be found on the Registrar s website at: www.unco.edu/registrar oContact Financial Aid regarding guidelines oGrade Replacement may affect Financial Aid and may also affect COF Stipend.
PRAXIS TESTING oRegister for the PRAXIS Test oLicensure accepted in 43 states and Guam ohttp://www.ets.org/praxis oSelect the correct test oApproximate cost $180 oElementary Education: Multiple Subjects oSelect Colorado as the state, to avoid registering for the wrong test oSelect a test location several in Northern Colorado oComputer-delivered test oStudy materials are available in the STE Office McKee 216 ask Dee about the process for checking out study materials
PRAXIS SCORES oSee PRAXIS on ELED website: http://www.unco.edu/cebs/teacher-education/current-students/praxis.aspx oPRAXIS Brochures in ELED Office. oTake the PRAXIS one semester prior to EDFE 120 oEDFE 120 survey and packet will be due March 20th no exceptions! oPractice/Review material available online at www.ets.org/praxis/register, at bookstores, or in McKee 216. oPrint scores immediately: score availability will expire. oIt is required to submit documentation that demonstrates that the PRAXIS test has been taken prior to EDFE 120 packet submission. oIt is further required that proof of successfully passing the PRAXIS is demonstrated prior to student teaching. You will not be able to student teach unless the PRAXIS has been passed. oScores are due March 20, 2019 for Fall 2019 Practicum!

APPLY FOR GRADUATION!!! oPlease note graduation procedure! oUpon registering for your final semester, it is mandatory that you check your account on Degree Works for your specific declared major. This step is very important! If you list the wrong major, your Graduation Application will be denied! oVisit the Graduation website http://www.unco.edu/regrec/Current%20Students/Graduation/Application.html oVia Bear email you will receive confirmation the Registrar received your application oWithin 5 to 10 business days you will receive an email showing any outstanding graduation requirements oSee ELED advisors regarding any questions/concerns Important Information!! oIf you plan to take a class in Summer 2019 to complete coursework prior to student teaching (EDEL 454) please note: oStudents planning to student teach Fall 2019 will not be permitted to register for student teaching (EDEL 454) until grades are submitted for any summer classes!
