  1. SAFE SCHOOLS PROTOCOLS

  2. APPLIES TO ALL MEMBERS OF STAFF THAT COME INTO CONTACT WITH STUDENTS REGARDLESS OF THEIR POSITION OR WORK LOCATION THE THREE PROTOCOLS ARE SHARED NO LATER THAN SEPTEMBER 28, 2018

  3. CHILD ABUSE REPORTING

  4. KEY UNDERSTANDINGS School Board employees have a common law duty to ensure that reasonable care is exercised, and appropriate action taken, to protect students from harm or risk of harm. Employees who have reason to believe that a student has been, or is likely to be, physically, sexually, or emotionally harmed must promptly report the matter to MFCD. Along with calling the appropriate authority, staff must complete a form B. In the near future, the School District will be changing to an online documentation process. Staff will still contact the necessary authorities followed by completing and submitting an form on-line. More information to follow.

  5. SUICIDE PREVENTION

  6. KEY UNDERSTANDINGS It is imperative that staff members follow the district s suicide prevention protocol and involve a school counsellor and/or administrator to assist those students who may be at risk . When students exhibit warning signs they are not seeking attention, rather, they are seeking help. Individuals who are suicidal don t want to die;they just want their pain to end. Staff do not need to verify whether or not a student is at risk , a school counsellor will determine this, and the best possible support a staff member can give a student is by getting them to the counsellor as soon as possible.

  7. VIOLENCE, THREAT RISK ASSESSMENT

  8. KEY UNDERSTANDINGS The purpose of the VTRA protocol is to identify indicators that suggest a student may be moving on a pathway towards violence against him/herself or others. If worrisome types of behaviour are brought to your attention, report them to administration as soon as possible. If there is imminent danger to yourself, students or the school in general, 911 is the appropriate course of action. Staff should familiarize themselves with the District's "Fair Notice" poster found in the office.
