7. REASONS ELDERS SHOULD PROMOTE FAITHFULNESS
1. They want followers to be like them Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ. 1Corinthians 11:1
Those who are appointed to guard the spiritual interests of the church should be careful to set a right example, giving no occasion for envy, jealousy, or suspicion, ever manifesting that same spirit of love, respect, and courtesy which they desire to encourage in their brethren. {5Testimonies for the Church, vol. 5, 241}
Leaders who fail to lead by example should not lead but be led If there is one person who should be faithful, it is the elder
2. Its a requirement 1CORINTHIANS 4:2 It is the duty of the elders and officers of the church to instruct the people on this important matter, and to set things in order. Counsels on Stewardship, 106
3. Statistics Demand that 3. Statistics Demand that Call to reconcile the two books Church Clerk s and Treasurer s The names in these books need harmonization. Low numbers of givers No leader should be comfortable when the majority of those he/she leads are unfaithful
4. To fulfil the requirements of the office Let the elders and officers of the church follow the direction of the Sacred Word, and urge upon their members the necessity of faithfulness in the payment of pledges, tithes, and offerings. Review & Herald, Dec. 17, 1889
5. They dont want the devil to be in charge I saw that many who profess to be keeping the commandments of God . rob God in tithes and in offerings. They dissemble and withhold from Him to their own hurt. They bring leanness and poverty upon themselves and darkness upon the church because of their covetousness, their dissembling, and their robbing. Testimonies for the Church, vol. 3, 289
John 8:12 Colossians 1:13 God rescued us from the dark power of Satan and brought us into the kingdom of his dear Son, Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life. Darkness symbolizes the devil while light stands for Jesus
6. They want to imitate Jesus
Of those whom you gave me I have lost not one. John18:9 Leaders will be held accountable fpr the loss of people they failed to help
7. They want to go home
Matthew 24:14 We can t go home until the work is finished And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come The can only finish through faithfulness in tithe and offerings
