Emotional support for children, young people and families An overview of RNIB services
What does RNIB offer? Emotional support and counselling The RNIB s Family Support Officers (FSO) are available for information, advice and support of any child or young person aged 0-25, their families and the professionals who work with them. Find your regional FSO at www.rnib.org.uk/cypf-contacts Specialist counsellors, part of RNIB s Emotional Support Service, are also available to provide more in depth counselling support to young people with vision impairment, aged 11 and over. Speak to your local FSO for more details or referral to the counselling team.
Emotional support podcasts Brand new for 2021 We have produced a series of 6 podcasts for families of children with vision impairment about different aspects of emotional support. The topics covered are: Resilience, confidence and self esteem Talking to your child about their eye condition Talking to others about your child s eye condition Isolation and anxiety Managing behaviour Coping with a new diagnosis The series is available at www.rnib.org.uk/children/emotional-support We produced the podcasts in collaboration with Dr Ian McCubbin, a clinical psychologist who is part of a specialist team who provide NHS specialist psychological services for children with VI funded by Fight Against Blindness.
