Revitalizing Beecher High School for a Brighter Future
Beecher High School in Flint, Michigan, once a powerhouse in sports and education, closed in 2004 and has been abandoned for nearly two decades. However, a unique public-philanthropic partnership led by native philanthropist Matt Rizik is working to restore the school to its former glory and provide an improved academic environment for the community's children. With generous donations and government support, the project aims to not only reopen the school but also enhance academic programming and athletic facilities, ensuring a better future for Flint-Beecher students.

Restoring Beecher High School And With It, A Better Future for Flint-Beecher Children
A Championship A Championship School School Flint-Beecher is the winningest men s basketball team this century with state titles in 1976, 1985, 1987, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2021, and 2023.
Without a School Without a School of Its Own of Its Own Beecher High School closed in 2004, putting the community s middle and high school students into one facility.
Beecher High Beecher High School Today School Today Abandoned for nearly 20 years, the former Beecher high school is in a state of total disrepair.
Beechers Children Beecher s Children Deserve Better Deserve Better Without training facilities in the remaining school, Beecher s championship teams work out in a converted 1990s auto shop in the old Beecher High School. New weight room equipment has been purchased and is being installed in the balcony of Lacy Fieldhouse.
And It Can And It Can Happen Happen Through a one-of-a-kind public- philanthropic partnership, we can not only bring Beecher High School back to life we can make it better than ever.
Through an Through an Unprecedented Unprecedented Philanthropic Philanthropic Commitment Commitment Led by Flint native Matt Rizik, CEO of Rock, nearly a dozen foundations and donors have stepped up to not only fund the school s restoration but to support enhanced academic programming once the school is brought back to life.
And a One And a One- -of of- -a a- -Kind Public Partnership Public Partnership Kind Senator John Cherry and Representative Jasper Martus have been instrumental in giving life to this project securing $2.5 million in the state s FY2023 budget. Of the $20M capital budget, approximately $15M has been raised not counting the additional pledges for enhanced instruction and programming. Senator Gary Peters has secured $2M in federal funding this year.
Reviving Beecher High Reviving Beecher High School is the beginning, School is the beginning, not the end not the end Civic leaders, including the local Greater Beecher Business Development Association, are committed to leveraging the revived high school as the lynchpin of an effort to revitalize the surrounding area, which has been beset by decades of disinvestment.
The Path to Success Exists The Path to Success Exists-- --With Existing State Funding Existing State Funding With In the FY2022-2023 Budget, the legislature appropriated $500 million for school infrastructure. With simple boilerplate language in the upcoming budget, we can close the remaining $5 million gap using existing funds for school infrastructure and Unlock one of the great stories of dedicated civic leaders, philanthropy, and government working together to give hope and opportunity to Flint-area children.
