  1. COMMITTEE ON RESEARCH Proposal from the Faculty Advisory Committee

  2. CHARGE Broadly tasked to evaluate the current state of the research enterprise at USC-Columbia Inform the faculty and the administration regarding existing strengths and emerging opportunities for the advancement and support of research across all fields and disciplines. Strategic planning and resource allocation Interdisciplinary collaboration Integration of research and student experiential learning

CHARGE Partner with the university s administration to advance the university s capacity to secure external funding Develop and recommend policies on research ethics and integrity Encourage faculty participation in the university s research enterprise Promote faculty and student research successes to the broader community

  4. CHARGE The committee will periodically evaluate and update its strategic priorities Form and dissolve subcommittees Devise and document measurable goals and action plans Prepare an annual report summarizing the committee s activities, accomplishments and recommendations Disseminate the report to the broader university community

  5. COMMITTEE COMPOSITION Nine members Elected to staggered three-year terms Representation from six (6) areas of study: Arts and humanities Social sciences Life sciences Physical sciences/mathematics Business/communication/law Education/nursing/social work

  6. COMMITTEE COMPOSITION Three committee members from the following: University Libraries Chair of the Palmetto College Campus Research and Productive Scholarship Committee At-large member nominated by the Faculty Senate Steering Committee Nominee will be approved by vote of the Faculty Senate Position to ensure broad representation Ex-officio Members Office of the Provost Office of the VP for Research
