  1. Restructuring the LCSD Gifted & Talented Program Proposed Changes for School Year 2018-2019

  2. Wisdom begins with wonder. Socrates Current Configuration / EAGLE Program / 2 Pull-Out Resource Centers / Grades 3-5 Indian Land Elementary serves students from ILE & HES (two full-time teachers plus one part-time hourly assistant) Discovery School serves students from BSE, BES, CES, Disc., EES, HSE, KES. MCGE & NES (four full-time teachers plus one part-time hourly assistant)

  3. Excellence in education is when we do everything that we can to make sure they [students] become everything that they can. Carol Tomlinson Proposed Changes (for 2018-19) Interim (for 2018-19) Add one full-time and two part- time teachers Program becomes site-based at 7 of 12 schools (HES, ILE, TBDE, NES, BES,HSE & KES) the first year with phase-in of on- site or itinerant EAGLE Program teachers over the next four years Continue one-day pull-out program at 5 schools (CES, BSE, EES, Disc., & McDG) Over a four-year period there will be a phase-in of on-site or itinerant teachers (based on student numbers & space availability)

Seneca Additional Benefits to Proposed Elementary Changes Site-based G/T teachers will provide professional development for regular education teachers Site-based G/T teachers will be available for consultation with regular education teachers related to gifted students Team planning among G/T teachers will ensure that all G/T students (at every school) receive uniform instruction

Albert Einstein Current Configuration / Middle School Special Class Model / Grades 6-8 Students are served in Pre-Honors & Honors ELA and/or Pre- Honors & Honors Math Classes Curriculum is differentiated through a combination of acceleration (advanced pacing) and enrichment (attention to depth and complexity practices) Proposed changes for 2018-19 include: intensive professional development in Shared Inquiry using Junior Great Books in ELA and a thorough study of standards-based curriculum acceleration and enrichment in mathematics

  6. You must be the change you wish to see in the world. Mahatma Gandhi Looking Ahead (High School Level) Emphasis will be on providing opportunities for honors-level teachers (especially in ELA and math) to participate in graduate-level coursework in order for them to obtain their G/T endorsement with the SDE End result will be that teachers will have a better understanding of the nature and needs of gifted students and we will be able count more students for funding

  7. The biggest mistake of past centuries in teaching has been to treat all students as if they were variants of the same individual and thus to feel justified in teaching them all the same subjects the same way. Howard Gardner Questions???
