Who May Refer My Child For Testing?
Referrals for evaluation may come from any individual with
knowledge of the student's abilities.
Generally, teachers or
counselors make Horizons referrals.  However, if a parent would
like their child to be considered for further evaluation by the
Gifted Evaluation Team, they may request a Parent Referral Packet
by contacting their child's homeroom teacher in writing/email.
Please note that teachers are expected to challenge every student
according to his/her abilities.
Therefore, a desire to have a child
participate in the Horizons Program is not a reason for a gifted
referral
. The Gifted Evaluation Team (GET) will review all referrals
and evidence that supports the referral. The team will decide if
further testing is warranted. Parent and Teacher referrals will be
reviewed prior to each testing window.
