PLEA FOR RESTORATION AND PRAISE FOR DIVINE HELP TEXT: Psalms 38: 1-22; 39: 1-13; 40: 1-17; 41: 1-13
MEMORY VERSE Hear my prayer, O Lord, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were (Psalm 39:12)
Praise simply means showing gratitude to God for His faithfulness while Prayer means communicating with God. Divine help is the help that comes from God only. It is a help that is beyond human strength and human understanding. It is miraculous and mysterious. Every true friend of Jesus is called to pray and praise God at all times, especially the one that comes from a humble heart. David had beautiful habit of praising God for His faithfulness and love towards him. He praised the Lord with harps, psaltery and other musical instruments. INTRODUCTION
Praise and Prayer attracts Gods presence, help, comfort and strength in difficult time. In the world today, friends of Jesus are not exempted from problems, difficulties, conflicts, sickness, threat from Satan and his agent and other challenges of life. With all these, friends of Jesus can only get connected to divine help through prayer and praise. Giving praise to thanksgiving should come from the heart because God loves the praises of His children (Psalm 22:3; 147:1). INTRODUCTION CONT D. God in form of
PRAYER FOR DIVINE HELP THREE POINTS TO CONSIDER EXHORTATION TO PRAISE GOD EXAMPLES OF THOSE WHO RECEIVED DIVINE THROUGH PRAISE AND PRAYER HELP
1. PRAYER FOR DIVINE HELP: Psalms 38:1-22; 39:1-13; 40:11-17; 41:1-10 The Psalms under consideration are known as the Psalms of David. They are prayers he made to God while in distress. He realised that most of his troubles were as a result of his sins. Therefore, he prayed earnestly for God s pardon, cleansing and deliverance. God heard him and answered him. God still answers prayers today, especially prayers offered from a repentant and sincere heart. We are called to pray without ceasing. This means we must cultivate the attitude of praying at all times.
The content of our prayer is outlined in the teaching of Jesus on prayer in Mathew 6:9-15. These are as follows: Thanksgiving and praises unto God for His love, mercy and care. Asking for forgiveness and cleansing of our sins so that we can have clear conscience to ask and receive help in time of need. Asking for spiritual growth and grace to fulfil God s desire on earth. Petition for deliverance and divine help in time of trouble, for example oppression, persecution, sickness, afflictions, hatred from people, bad dreams, failure, lack and problems in the family. Prayer for daily provision and care. Thanksgiving for God s care and willingness to help and deliver. POINT 1. PRAYER FOR DIVINE HELP CONT D
God is delighted in our praises. All the creatures of God: the birds of the air, the animals and the fishes in the sea in their own language also praise God. The angels praise Him, the heavens adore Him, and the universe declare His majesty and glory. Praises and prayer move the hand of God to do impossible and unbelievable wonders in our lives. Both bring divine help in time of difficulty, healing, deliverance form the hand of Satan, provision, protection and lots of other blessings. 2. EXHORTATION TO PRAISE GOD: Psalms 40:1-10; 41:11- 13; 34:1-4; 150:1-6
David sang and played the harp and the evil spirit departed from Saul. He also prayed when he faced Goliath; and when his son Absalom rose to dethrone him, God gave him victory 2. EXHORTATION TO PRAISE GOD CONT D. Do you remember to praise God at all when things are not going well with you? If there is any difficulty, remember God s past faithfulness and mercy towards you and praise Him for the present experience. Cultivate the habit of praising God through prayers of thanksgiving and songs of praise.
Moses cried to God and children of Israel were able to cross the Red Sea on dry ground, while their enemies were drowned. 3. EXAMPLES OF THOSE WHO RECEIVED DIVINE HELP THROUGH PRAISE AND Daniel came out from the lion s den (Daniel 6:16- 22). An Angel of God opened the prison door for Peter as the church was praying for him (Acts 12;5-10). PRAYER: Paul and Silas when they sang praises and prayed in the prison (Act;23-26). Psalms 40: 1-10; 41:13 The walls of Jericho fell down flat when the children of Israel sang praises to God (Joshua 6:20).
King Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah were victorious over the enemy nations just by singing praises unto God (2 Chronicles 20: 21-25) 3. EXAMPLES OF THOSE WHO RECEIVED DIVINE HELP THROUGH PRAISE AND PRAYER CONT D. A child was kidnapped and taken to the forest for ritual, praises and prayer were made on his behalf, he came back unhurt. Some people were travelling on a bus, had an accident, summersaulted many times and was damaged beyond repair. Everybody in the bus died except one brother who was preaching the gospel before the accident. As you daily pray and praise God, you too will receive divine help.
