  2. Values and leadership The transformation project was both exciting and also challenging at the same time. Whilst the end game vision was massively exciting, the difficulty involved in planning the project and actioning it as well as the disappointment in closing a number of depots and ultimately losing a number of staff alongside the external pressures associated with the pandemic were immensely challenging. I believe, however, that the project was achieved with absolute integrity and also a significant amount of sympathy for the staff members that we had to unfortunately lose. Raj played a massive part in this. The leadership and confidence that Raj gave us and the reassuring presence throughout the project ensured that we could have difficult conversations secure in the knowledge that no matter how hard they were, they were always for the greater good of the business and that colleagues were always being treated with the utmost respect, sympathy and honesty. We now have a network in place that is significantly more efficient than is was but also has massive potential for growth in the future. I am genuinely excited to have both been part of the journey to build this network alongside Raj and also support the business in reaping the benefits of it going forwards.   3. Leadership We were a fresh group of businesses that had 4 different ERP s 18 months ago and we now have just 1. Not only does this provide the correct technical platform for our operational changes but also led us to challenge and innovate on our data and reporting platforms via the SEED integrations. These changes provide the updates to not only simplify prior complexity but the foundations to springboard into future innovations . In times when most leaders were battening down the hatches, Raj had the vision to seize the opportunities and take our business to the next level. His support is outstanding and his passion for our business infectious. Claire Williams (Head of Data, Reporting and Insights) The business transformation meant a restructure for the procurement team, consolidating categories under one person rather than a series of individuals operating within separate brands. This has given us the opportunity to drive supplier and product consolidation across all shared categories such as dairy, grocery and deli. Now we have category experts developing greater knowledge, responsible for their categories across the entire Sysco Speciality Group of brands. This has yielded lower prices, simplified range, clearer communication and improved service; all contributing towards more positive outcomes for our customers David Bayes (Head of Procurement - Grocery, Dairy and Frozen)

  4. Leadership Raj s vision for Freshliner translated to the sales team as a fresh, consolidated offer unrivalled in the market place. We were inspired and excited as the change would give us the opportunity to come back stronger by streamlining our internal processes and uniting the specialism across our businesses all on to one truck, with one invoice for the customer. In today s market, Freshliner is much more than just an opportunity to sell with ease across group. I believe growth will be rapid as this, combined with the expertise of our people, is gradually making us the solution for the majority of our customers challenges, their first call for innovation and has the added benefit of reducing carbon footprint when compared to our customers existing supply chains. Lauren Parker (Head of CD Sales) The Freshliner presents a great opportunity to our prospective customers. Our team are able to offer a real industry USP as a national chilled supplier. As our market grows in confidence I m sure we will see further recovery of the foodservice sector, and a greater engagement in our Freshliner proposition. Having worked in a number of businesses across the sector I believe we have a genuinely unique offer and an opportunity to add value where our competitors cannot. Leadership The Freshliner proposition has provided a robust platform to enhance our engagement with M&B, one of the biggest pub groups in the country, and provide a solid foundation to build a long term strategic partnership. We have delivered them flexible and competitive commercials with additional benefit for growth to drive cost efficiencies for their procurement function whilst improving our own profitability. The Freshliner solution also allowed us to deliver upon their CSR initiatives by reducing food miles by over 250k miles per annum whilst introducing a market leading packaging solution on their fish category to reduce plastic and landfill in their business.   6. Values Raj s vision to see a market s evolution and where a gap is opening up is exceptional. His ability to communicate this opportunity, mobilise a team and drive it to fruition is inspirational. Even more impressive though is that this is all achieved with utmost integrity and genuine care for colleagues wellbeing. The scale of what has been achieved within the Sysco Speciality Group over the last 12 months is unbelievable, particularly as many team members have not met colleagues in person due to Covid and yet have still delivered amazing results together.
