  1. Subject: Phonics Year Group:1 Week Commencing:20/4/20 Phonics play login: For subject information, games and activities to support this planning, please also look on the Help your child with English document saved on the class page.

  2. Date:20/4/20 Lesson Objective: We are practising using and applying the grapheme oy . Activity: Recap all sounds in your phonics folder- make it a quick recall! Practise reading the red warning words on Task 1 sheet. Can you put any of these words into a sentence? Explain we are thinking about the digraph oy, toy for a boy - What letters do we find in this sound? (letter names). What other sounds make the same sound? (oi) Practice decoding for reading the real and alien words that all include the oy sound in Task 1. Please use your decoding toolkit to do this! Can you think of any words of your own that include this sound? Children to write 4 words that include the oy sound. Please say the word to your child, ask them to say it, robot talk it, put it on their fingers, write it down . Words- boy, enjoy, toy, destroy. Children to decode and read the sentences including the oy sound.

  3. Date: 21/4/20 Lesson Objective: We are practising using and applying the grapheme ir . Activity: Recap all sounds using Phonics Play Flashcard game- https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/member-only/FlashcardsTC.html or recap sounds from your phonics folder. Practise reading red warning words on Task Sheet 2 Explain we are thinking about the digraph ir, whirl and twirl - What letters do we find in this sound? (letter names). What other sounds make the same sound? Practice decoding for reading the real and alien words that all include the ir sound by playing Picnic on Pluto. https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/member-only/PicnicOnPluto.html. Click on phase 5, ir sound. Children to write 5 words that include the ir sound. Please say the word to your child, ask them to say it, robot talk it, put it on their fingers, write it down . Words- whirl, girl, twirl, first, stir. Children to pick one of the words they have written. Can they write a sentence using their chosen word?

  4. Date:22/4/20 Lesson Objective: We are practising the red warning words Mr , Mrs looked called asked Activity: Recap all sounds using phonics folders make it a quick recall. Play Buried Treasure sorting real and nonsense word game- click on phase 5 - oy sound to recap sound from Monday. https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/member-only/BuriedTreasure2.html Explain we are recapping the red warning words Mr , Mrs looked called asked Practice spelling these red warning words- we can t sound these words out. Can you write these words into a sentence? Decode and read the sentences including the five red warning words for today on Task 3 sheet.

Play Tricky word trucks- click on Phase 5a words or or practise from Red Warning Words sheet https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/member-only/TrickyWordTrucks.html Explain that we are recapping the ue, blue glue grapheme today. What letter names do we find in this sound? What other sounds make this sound? Play Buried Treasure sorting real and nonsense word game- click on phase 5 - ue sound. https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/member-only/BuriedTreasure2.html Decode and read the ue words on the Task 4 sheet. Decode, read and sort the real and alien words including the ue sound.

Activity: Recap all sounds using Phonics Play Flashcard game- https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/member-only/FlashcardsTC.html or recap sounds in your phonics folder. or Recap reading red warning word list 7 on Task sheet 5. Explain that we are recapping the aw, yawn at dawn grapheme today. What letter names do we find in this sound? What other sounds make this sound? Decode and read the aw words on Task sheet 5. Children to use the spelling toolkit to write the words- draw, yawn, paw, claw, straw Children to write the sentence- (dictate the sentence a few times and repeat whilst children record!).
