  2. Conservatory Program Training

  3. Acting Class # 1 Method Acting Class: Stella Adler This class is designed to teach the acting method created by Stella Adler to allow students to begin their foundation into performing. Beginning students will be taught to understand the art of doing and creation of choices due to the intention of character. Students working towards an intermediate level, will begin to work on the use of creative imagination to create a past that belongs to each character. Advanced students working in this method will work on the cultivation of rich humanity which allows the actor to work outside their own life to understand what happens beyond and into the characters life. All students will begin working in imagination (as if). Classroom Materials: The Art of Acting by Stella Adler Daily Classwork: Each student will be working in Stella Adler's method by applying these practices in monologues, duet scenes or group scenes according to where the students are in their process of the art form. Once they have begun to understand how to use the method they will begin to apply it in a rehearsal setting working towards a performance level.

  4. Acting Class #2 Musical Theatre Performance: How to Attack a Song In this course the student will develop a basic understanding of how to attack and present a song as a musical theater performer. Students will explore how to act a song and the understanding of music/lyrics within a song. All students will work independently (and with the teacher) on choosing materials, song and composer study. Actors within their own process will work on the character development of their chosen piece. Students will work on vocal styling and musicality of the piece chosen to understand why we sing certain songs certain ways. Classroom Materials: Music for the chosen song. Daily Classwork: Each student will be working on choosing pieces and understanding the composer/lyricist intention for the song. They will also work on the development of the chosen song, understanding the acting and vocal needs to allow the song to come to life . The actors will be working within their own process to create dynamic and three dimensional works that will double as audition or performance songs.

  5. Music Class #1 Music Theory and Keyboard This class is designed to teach students basic music theory and an understanding of the keyboard. All students will examine the elements that construct a piece of music allowing for growth in their process as musicians. Students, in smaller groups, will work on keyboarding skills in order to advance their work in music theory and ear training. Classroom Materials: Alfred's Essentials of Music Theory Books; Alfred's Basic Piano Library Lesson Book Daily Classwork: Each class students will be working on basic music theory both as a class and independently. While students have independent study, they will be grouped to have keyboard instructions. These classes will enhance the musicality of each student to help incorporate into the actors focus art.

  6. Music Class #2 Private Voice Lesson This private voice lesson will be provided for each student individually to teach them vocal technique beginning at where they are in their process. Each student will have a 30 minute weekly private lesson with a vocal teacher during the school day. Class will teach the importance of vocal care and proper vocal use to sustain its use within the performing arts. Classroom Materials: At the discretion of the vocal teacher Daily Classwork: Students will be working on materials that the vocal teacher believes will help strengthen their work as a performer within their lessons.

  7. Dance Class #1 Musical Theatre Performance: Dancing in the Ensemble This class is designed to teach, as an actor and/or singer; how to perform as a dancer in the ensemble. All students will work on understanding choreography and maintaining character during the performance. Actors will work on basic dance training along with precision work and ensemble training that is used in musical theatre dance. Classroom Materials: Dance clothes and shoes Daily Classwork: Students will be working on understanding the work ethic to dance in the ensemble. This includes not only producing basic dance but also incorporating attributes of ensemble characters while understanding choreography. Actors will learn Broadway ensemble dance numbers to incorporate the skills learned in this class.

  8. Dance Class #2 Ballet: Technique and Strength Training Students will learn the basic technique of ballet and work on core training that will allow them to strengthen their basis in dance to progress in their own process. This class will revolve around bar and floor work, teaching staples of basic ballet while also challenging the student to become stronger and more efficient. Class will teach students the importance of physical care and strength as a dancer to keep the body healthy within the performing arts. Classroom Materials: Dance clothes and shoes Daily Classwork: Students will work daily on ballet technique that will vary according to their process. This will allow students to strengthen their core training on barre and across the floor techniques in each class. Actors will work on the basic techniques that is applied within all types of dances to follow.

  12. A day in the Life. Monday and Friday are Independent Study days. First hour and last hour will be supervised review of lessons learned in music, dance or acting.
