The National Organization for Human Services (NOHS) The Human Services profession is one which promotes improved service delivery systems by addressing not only the quality of direct services, but also by seeking to improve accessibility, accountability, and coordination among professionals and agencies in service delivery. Human Services Program Mission Statement To provide quality education for knowledge acquisition and skill development in the areas of assessment, intervention, treatment, advocacy, and support, on behalf of individuals seeking human services. 6
What is the HS Program? Saddleback College s HS program is a lower division course of study for students who what an Associate s Degree, Certificate of Achievement, and/or plan to transfer to a 4- year college or university. The HS program serves as an introduction to careers in social work, criminal justice, community-based corrections, counseling, public health and other helping professions. Associated roles include, but are not limited to: Mentorship, advocacy, counseling, case management, addiction counseling, and more. 7

Human Services Certificate Of Achievement (3) 1. Alcohol and Drug Studies (40-units)* 2. Human Services Generalist (37-units)* 3. Mental Health Worker (29-unites)* *Requires the completion of Field Work Courses 9
Human Services Occupational Skills Awards [OSA] (2) OSA in Eating Disorders Studies (9-units) OSA in Community-Based Corrections Studies (12-units) An Occupational Skills Awards can be used to augment a certificate, enhance your work skills, and/or add specialized educational training to your resume. 10
Human Services Field Work & Seminar A component of the Certificates in Human Services includes a culminating Field Work Experience. Students work directly in internships in the Field at Agencies approved by the College for training. Training is specific to the Human Services Competencies of the various certificates. 11
Human Services Field Work & Seminar Next HS 110 Orientation is Wednesday October 11th2:00 to 4:00pm There are required prerequisite courses and an Application that must be submitted. Pop Quiz ahead! The Human Services Department rests in the College's School of Health and Wellness. Courses are listed as HS courses. The School of Health and Wellness is in the Health Sciences Building, aka HS Building. When HS classes are on campus, they are held in the HS building. So for example HS 105 which is our Ethics Course might be offered in Room HS 105, Confused??? Its Confusing! Did you know that the Student Health Center is called the Health & Wellness Center? So this means 19
Pop Quiz ahead! An HS student could go in the HS building and take an HS class. A student in the College of Health and Wellness could get sick and need to go to the Health and Wellness Center. But if an HS student went in the HS building to see the school nurse, they would be visiting the College of Health and Wellness, and not the Health & Wellness Center. We have Kleenex and sympathy in the College of Health and Wellness, but other than that, we cant help you with your health needs. 20
