Senior Year Overview Fall Conference with College Counselor to discuss college choices Prepare a checklist to include deadlines, application requirements, receipt of test scores, etc. Decide which Application Deadline a student will be applying to Visit with college reps during their visits to Padua Continue to tour Colleges Ask for letters of recommendation Finalize essays visit Padua s Writing Lab Complete Transcript Request Forms after applying Complete FASFA after October 1st Attend Financial Aid Night on September 29th
Senior Year Overview Winter Be aware of Financial Aid and Scholarship deadlines Complete scholarship applications Send Mid-Yr Transcripts to schools that require them Update admission decisions in Naviance Arrange auditions, portfolio reviews, or scholarship interviews Spring Examine Financial Aid Packages Decide and submit deposit to colleges by May 1 Decision Day Notify College Counselor of your final decision
Testing ACT & SAT All students have taken the ACT at Padua in February 2022 Students can register for additional tests by visiting actstudent.org or collegeboard.org If retesting be sure to check college deadlines to ensure test will be received in time! Most schools continue to have a test optional policy. Discuss with your College Counselor what the right option is for you regarding sending your test score Padua does NOT send scores on students behalf, must be sent directly from testing agency!
College Visitation Student have 3 excused absences per year to visit college campuses Take advantage of College Representative Information Sessions coming to Padua Group Campus visits coming soon! Career Shadowing Opportunities excused absences September 26th, October 17th, and October 18th great opportunity for visits!
College Application Steps STEP 1 - Complete the College s admission application STEP 2 - Mark that you have submitted your application in Naviance Student. STEP 3 - Complete a Transcript Release form and submit it to your counselor WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? Your counselor will verify with you that everything is prepared to send to the college and the counselor will submit your materials (via Naviance).
College Application Tips When applying, it is helpful to have on hand: Transcript Resume Essay ACT/SAT scores (if using) College Application Workshops Friday, September 2nd Friday, September 16th Friday, October 14th ** Located in Padua Library **
Application Review Primary importance placed on: High school grade point average Strength and depth of high school curriculum ACT/SAT scores if not applying test optional Other important factors in the application process: Student Essay Teacher and counselor recommendation letters Extracurricular Activities
Application Review Important to Keep in Mind - There are 24,000+ high schools in the United States, each with a top ten list of students. Approximately 240,000 seniors apply to the same group of eight Ivies and highly selective schools. Top students become typical looking in this group. Naviance Students will use Naviance Student to: List Colleges in Colleges I m Applying to Request Letters of Recommendation Electronically Complete Resume Complete Senior Questionnaire-Due Sept. 24th! Counselors will use Naviance to: Send Transcripts and Letters of Recommendations to colleges (+ any supporting documents) Collect data trends on where students apply and get accepted
Naviance Parent can use Naviance to: Learn more about colleges and universities Save schools that your student is interested in Research majors and careers related to your student s interest Search for scholarship and financial aid opportunities ** Be sure to sign in with the Counseling Department before you leave this evening. We will send you an email tomorrow inviting you to create your Naviance account if you have not already done so. **
