The CompTIA Program at CUNY Kingsborough Community College offers a free online training program funded by the U.S. DOL to help individuals kickstart a career in information technology. About the Program The CompTIA Program is a Free online training program funded by the U.S. DOL CompTIA A+ is considered the starting point for launching a career in information technology The A+ course will cover the fundamentals of PC hardware & software, and help students prepare for the A+ certification exam The course will begin in January 2022 and run for approximately 18 weeks Enrollment will be approximately 25 students per cohort Internship and employment assistance will be available to students who complete the program

  3. Eligibility Requirements 18 years of age or older Proficient in English Attained a High School Diploma or equivalency Eligible to work in the United States Possess working knowledge of PCs and windows Possess a PC computer with internet connection for class

The Computer Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) CompTIA is a non-profit trade association that provides professional certifications for individuals working in the IT industry CompTIA is considered one of the industry s top trade associations CompTIA A+ is considered one of the first steps in building a career in IT

  6. Curriculum The curriculum will cover the fundamentals of PC hardware, software and peripherals. Students will learn PC installation and troubleshooting, network connections, operating systems, security and cloud computing The course is instructor led, and students will use CertMaster Learn e-learning tool CertMaster Learn is interactive and self-paced, and combines instructional lessons with assessments, videos, labs and performance base questions to help students prepare for the A+ certification exam The curriculum is divided into two parts Core 1 and Core 2 (Hardware and Software)

A+ Certification Exam There are two parts to the A+ certification exam Core 1 (Hardware) and Core 2 (Software) Exams are 90 minutes each, multiple choice, with drag & drop, and performance based questions Core 1 Exam covers Mobile Devices, Networking, Hardware, Virtualization, Cloud computing and Network troubleshooting Core 2 Exam covers Operating Systems, Security, Software Troubleshooting, and Operational Procedures

Careers Potential Jobs Include - Field Service Technician, Help Desk Technician, IT Specialist and Technical Support Specialist Intel, Dell, Nissan, Blue Cross/Blue Shield and HP all look for the CompTIA A+ certification when hiring for jobs (CompTIA) Starting salaries can range from 35k - 50k The employment of computer support specialists is projected to grow 12% from 2014 to 2024, faster than the average for all occupations. (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics)
