  1. NJHS OFFICER ELECTIONS Northeast Middle School Ms. Hill, Adviser

  2. THERE ARE 5 OFFICER POSITIONS: President Vice President Secretary Treasurer Service Hour Accountant

  3. PRESIDENT The president will lead each meeting throughout the year. You should have excellent public speaking skills and should not shy away from being the leader of the group. You must be able to lead a discussion in front of a large group of people and keep them focused. You must have strong leadership ability and not be afraid of politely telling people what you need them to do in order to complete a task. You will need to attend all officer meetings AND regular NJHS meetings. This job requires a large amount of time and someone to do it who is very responsible.

  4. VICE PRESIDENT The vice president will help the president to lead each meeting throughout the year and will take charge of meetings when/if the president cannot attend. You should have excellent public speaking skills and should not shy away from being the leader of the group. You must be able to lead a discussion in front of a large group of people and keep them focused. You must have strong leadership ability and not be afraid of politely telling people what you need them to do in order to complete a task. You will assist/oversee other officers during meetings. You will need to attend all officer meetings AND regular NJHS meetings. This job requires a large amount of time and someone to do it who is very responsible.

  5. TREASURER The treasurer is a great position for a student who wants an opportunity to lead but may not want to speak in front of large groups. The treasurer helps to keep records of our money throughout the year. You will record the money that is collected throughout the year and prepare a variety of reports. You will help the group figure out how much money is needed for activities, and how much we need to raise if we don't have enough. You will help with the collection of money in anyway needed, including working with Mrs. McCormick in the Main Office. You will need to attend all officer meetings AND regular NJHS meetings. This job requires a large amount of time and someone to do it who is very responsible.

  6. SECRETARY The secretary is a great position for students who want an opportunity to lead but may not want to speak in front of large groups. The secretary s biggest job is recording attendance and notes of what occurred at each meeting. You will need to post your minutes (notes) on the NJHS website after each meeting. If students are absent for any reason, you will need to notify students who are in danger of being removed from membership due to attendance issues. You will have to prepare a yearly attendance report which lists attendance for each meeting. You will need to attend all officer meetings AND regular NJHS meetings. This job requires a large amount of time and someone to do it who is very responsible.

  7. SERVICE HOUR ACCOUNTANT The service hour accountant is a great position for students who want an opportunity to lead but may not want to speak in front of large groups. The service hour accountant s biggest job is recording service hours for each member throughout the year. Students hand in their monthly service hour logs, and you will record those each month. You will have to prepare a yearly service hour report which lists service hours for each month. You will need to help prepare letters at the end of the year notifying each student of the amount of service hours completed by May 1, so they will know how many they need to complete (if any) by the end of the school year. You will need to attend all officer meetings AND regular NJHS meetings. This job requires a large amount of time and someone to do it who is very responsible.

  8. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN BEING AN OFFICER: Only four members will be considered as candidates for each position (20 members total). Create a 1-2 minute speech to present to our membership: In your speech, please describe the service project you would like to create or oversee. Describe the qualities that make you the right candidate for office. Be very specific when you are speaking, so that students will know why they should vote for you.

  9. VOTING We will vote immediately after the speeches are over. Each member will have their own ballot via Google Classroom. It will track your responses, but that is just to make sure that students are only voting once. No one who misses this meeting will be allowed to vote at a later time. Each candidate will be allowed to vote.
