Students change classes and have more than one teacher Larger building & course work is more challenging Students must be independent, focused, & responsible Students may feel apprehensive, excited. Will I fit in? Will I like my teachers? Will I be successful? Keep lines of communication open with your son/ daughter & listen to them They will be transitioning to a different school & physically/mentally growing & changing Focus may shift from families to friends

Join our school PTO Reach out to our Parent Liaison-Diana Torres Attend school board meetings Share your time and talents at school Share your time and volunteer at school activities, and other areas in the school or committees. You must fill out application & background check Check on grades and email teachers through parent portal Get info through social media and call outs

  4. Students become more independent & socially active. Parent may face difficulties. Be involved in your child s life by making sure your son/daughter are making good choices & decisions. They need your guidance, encouragement, love & support. School calendar can be found on CISD website Campus calendar is A and B Schedule

  5. FOR ANY ABSENCE, a child must bring a parent or medical note to attendance clerk-Brenda Gonzalez If your child is going to be absent for more than 3 days, you must bring in a doctor s note. Also check with your students teachers for missed assignments If your child has an extended illness or chronic health problem, get documentation from the doctor. Please follow up with teacher s for make up work (via email) Student can lose credit and parent & student may be sent to court if the student has 10 unexcused days or parts of days, within a 6 month period. Fails to attend school without excuse on 3 or more days or parts of days within a 4 week period will receive a warning letter.

  6. Rules are established on campus and in each classroom to maintain a safe environment for our students and facilitate learning Consequences vary from lunch detention to expulsion ISS-is on our campus for AMS students DAEP-Alternative placement at Lone Star for more severe cases -CISD transportation is not provided

  7. BOTTOMS: Blue or Black Denim Jeans or Khaki colored dress pants. They include: jeans, capris and shorts. Skorts and skirts must not be shorter than 4 fingers (3 inches) above the knee. No sagging pants, no rips or tears of any kind on any clothing No leggings or jeggings TOPS: T-shirt or polo with AMS logo in solid orange or grey OUTERWEAR: Must not have inappropriate sayings or pictures Hoodies (have a hood/no zipper) Can be any color, but must have AMS logo. Jackets or Sweatshirts with zipper- Can be any color, but must be unzipped and AMS school uniform shirt visible UNDERSHIRT: Any color or pattern OTHER ITEMS: No opened toe shoes, flip flops, or sandals. No bandanas, no gang or offensive writing on skin, clothing, shoes, jewelry or school property, no head coverings (unless for religious purposes), no sunglasses and hats are not permitted in the building.

  9. -All students will be issued a school ID from our librarian and librarian aide: Lauren Harrison and Cynthia Montoya. -First ID is free. Lost/Replacement IDs will be $3.00 each -All IDs must be visible and outside of uniform at all times -It cannot be destroyed or altered in anyway. Doing so will result in having to purchase another ID. -IDs are a must as soon as you walk into campus and transition from class to class, until the time you leave campus or ride the bus home. -Teachers will check for IDs upon entering each class and complete a google doc if you do not have one. -If you do not have your ID, you will not be allowed to participate in recess or go outside during lunch.

  10. Plans & coordinates health services If child will be out from PE for a day, please bring a note to front office. If they will be more than 3 days, please bring a doctor s note. Students are checked for scoliosis in the 6th grade by nurse Students get an eye, hearing and diabetes check in 7th grade Our nurse, provides fist aid & assessments to assist an ill or injured student & works closely with the counselors for other social- emotional & health concerns. Communicates with parents & guardian if further medical care or attention is needed; makes referrals as appropriate. Students can carry or bring medication to school, but must have a doctor s orders and filed with the nurse. (See nurse for form)

Monitor student progress/ their social emotional, academic and personal well being Help students to choose their classes/ help with organization skills Talk to students about their careers and educational options for high school, early college & college Available to advise student on how to deal with difficult situations /other student conflicts Are a good resource to students, parents & teachers Available to assist parents if needed

  12. Student have 12 periods: 6 on A days (Periods 1-6), and 6 on B days (Periods 7-12). Core subjects: English, Math, Science & Social Studies. Electives: Band, Choir, Art, Theater Arts, Foreign Language, Intramurals, PE, CTE, Intervention Math/Reading High school credit courses Algebra, Pre-Ap & Ap Spanish, Art, Principals of Business, Marketing, & Finance

  13. Students choose their schedules in February and pre register. You can help your child choose their classes & the most appropriate electives. Counselors create master schedule based on what student needs & elective courses chosen. A must for all students in STAAR tested subjects: 6th grade attend A/B days Math & English 7th grade attend A/B days Math & English 8th grade attend A/B days Math, English History and Science.

  14. Alderete has several clubs: NJHS, Student Council, Robotics, Girls Who Code, Yearbook, NPFH, and more. Students can join several sports starting in 7th grade: football, basketball, softball, track, baseball, volleyball, cheerleading, soccer, and cross country Students have UIL eligibility requirements: Must fill out and pass a physical Must maintain a 70 or better in every class to play Must be in good disciplinary standings

  15. Provide school supplies & a place to study If you need assistance please ask our parent liaison Help set academic goals Insist on daily attendance Attend all parent meetings Use Parent Portal Use rewards & consequences to encourage a healthy lifestyle Help improve organizational skills Help with time management/homework. Assist student in taking ownership & responsibility
