National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) Overview
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) plays a vital role in providing loans and bursaries to eligible students in South Africa. Its mandate includes raising funds, developing criteria for grants, and ensuring equal access to higher education. The scheme aims to address past discrimination, support human resource development, and manage bursaries for funded students in collaboration with universities. Qualifying criteria are based on household income and other factors. NSFAS manages stakeholder relations, facilitates payments, and guides the administration of bursaries in line with DHET rules.
