Monarch Park Collegiate Grade 8 Parent & Student Information Night
Monarch Park Collegiate is a community school offering specialized programs like the International Baccalaureate, Mobility Resource Program, and Independent Living Program. They follow a two-semester system with a combination of compulsory and elective courses. The school day consists of four classes with a 55-minute lunch break, starting at 9:00 am and finishing at 3:15 pm. The student population is growing, especially in the Grade 9 cohort. Grade 9 students have the opportunity to choose from a variety of courses, including both compulsory and elective subjects.

How to Read a Course Code ENG1D1 This letter identifies the stream/destination. D= Academic P= Applied L= Locally Developed O=Open This number identifies the grade 1 = Grade 9, 2=10, 3+11, 4=12
Course Options Course Levels Open Academic vs Designed to broaden students knowledge and skills in subjects that reflect their interests. Courses do not have specific requirements and prepare students for active participation in society. Focus on development of knowledge and skills through theory and abstract thinking as a basis for future learning and problem-solving. Prepares students for grade 11 & 12 courses at the university, university/college and college levels.
Student Support Enhanced Literacy & Numeracy Program Who? students whose IEP indicates that they are working below grade expectations students who would benefit from more practice in these subjects before entering the academic level Why? What? Literacy and/or Numeracy course in first semester that assists students in preparing for Academic English or Math in second semester Full year of English and/or Math courses instead of a single semester How? Small class size One full credit Focused curriculum that provides the foundation for success in the corresponding academic course Select Academic Bridging on course selection sheet for the desired Math and/or English courses. Select one to two fewer elective courses. A Guidance Counsellor is available to discuss timetable options for students interested in this program.

Important Dates Optional Attendance January 29th at 4 pm Deadline for Optional Attendance to be received by email to krista.baines@tdsb.on.ca. The form is available at www.monarchparkcollegiate.ca February 12th Deadline for parent(s)/guardian(s) to be informed of the status of their application requests. Students accepted through optional attendance will receive an email on this day. February 26th Parent(s)/Guardian(s) and students must confirm the offer of admission by submitting a course selection sheet to Monarch Park Collegiate by email to krista.baines@tdsb.on.ca Non-TDSB students & families must contact Yvonne.Mascioli@tdsb.on.ca to register at MPC. Specialized programs, such as the Pre- Baccalaureate program have different deadlines.
