  3. Mythbuster True or false? Interviews are for the employer to see if they like me or not. There s no point practicing interviews in advance because the questions won t be the same. I don t need to do any research about the company because they are asking questions only about me and my experience.

  4. Introduction In this session, we ll explore: What an interview is What might happen when you re in an interview How to prepare for being interviewed before work experience

  5. What do you know about interviews?

  6. What is the purpose of an interview? For the employer to determine if the interviewee (that s you!) is a good fit for the job, the team and the company. For the interviewee to see if the company, team and role would be a good fit for them. Key point: it s a two-way process! You should be judging the people interviewing you as much as they are judging you.

  7. What happens in an interview? There is no set format for an interview and they are all different. However, there are things that happen in a lot of interviews that you can use to help you to prepare for yours.

  8. What happens in an interview? Interviews are usually conducted by the manager you d be working under, members of your prospective team or someone who works in human resources. Or a mixture! They might ask some questions about you as a person, some about your competencies and skills, and some that relate to the industry. There ll be some small-talk before and after the main interview where you aren t talking about the role specifically but the interviewer is getting a feel for you as a person, as well as time for you to ask the interviewer any questions you may have.

  9. How to prepare for an interview Do your research! Learn about the industry, the company, and what type of jobs you would be interested in doing there in the future. Practice some typical interview questions. A great way of doing this is playing the Unifrog Interview Board Game with your friends! Expect the unexpected! You might be asked some tricky questions. Don t panic, ask for clarification if you don t understand and take a breath before you answer.

  10. How to present yourself for an interview Dress appropriately. It s never a bad thing if you re the most smartly dressed in the room! If in doubt about a dress code, go smarter. Know the name of the person you re being interviewed by. Interviewers will appreciate this and it adds a personal touch Arrive 10 minutes early for your interview. This gives you time to catch your breath and gets rid of any last minute nerves Be polite, and smile!

  11. Interview board game the rules To take a turn, a player rolls the dice and moves their counter. The player then answers the question they land on. The group decides if a player s answer is good or bad. If it s good, they can stay where they landed. If their answer is bad, they must return to where they originally were and wait for their next turn. The player to reach the end of the board first is the winner!

  12. Describe yourself in five words This is a common question in interviews. Having an idea of how you d answer will help when you re in that situation for real! If you were an employer, how would you want an interviewee to respond? What kind of words would you use? In groups, create mind-maps of words you d use to describe yourself. Share your ideas with the class.
