  1. Articles (a) And (an)

  2. Indefinite articles - a and an A and an are the indefinite articles. They refer to something which is not specifically known to the person you are communicating with. A and an are used before nouns that introduce something or someone you have not mentioned before:-

  3. For example: "I saw an elephant this morning." "I ate a banana for lunch." A and an are also used when talking about professions :- For example: "I am an English teacher." He is a builder."

  4. Using a or an a boy; a car; a bike; a zoo; a dog a + singular noun beginning with a consonant: an elephant; an egg; an apple; an idiot; an orphan an + singular noun beginning with a vowel: a university; a unicorn In these examples a is used before (u) because the (u) has a consonant sound here which is the 'y sound. a + singular noun beginning with a consonant sound: an + nouns starting with silent "h": an hour

  5. The Rules of Regular and Irregular Plurals

  6. Regular nouns For nouns ending in s, x, z,o, ch or sh, add -es For most nouns, just add -s Singular Plural Singular Plural hand hands box boxes rabbit rabbits class classes key keys wish wishes building buildings tomato tomatoes

  7. For nouns that end with a consonant + y, change the y into an i and then add -es Singular Plural poppy poppies fly flies country countries

  8. Irregular nouns For other nouns, singular and plural forms are completely different ! Some nouns are the same in both singular and plural from Singular person child foot tooth man woman Plural people children feet teeth men women Singular Plural fish fish sheep sheep tuna tuna salmon salmon
