Objective.
At the end of this case study student  will able
to manage missed combined oral
contraceptive pills.

Case1:(Client name) is a 25 years of age
,recently married women and she was using
combined oral contraceptive for three
consecutive months.  She come to family
planning   unit for the reason of missing
combined Oral contraceptives pills.
Q1. what additional information do you  want
to ask her?

She told you that, she missed three COC pills
consecutively in the third week  and she did
not used any backup methods during that
time. She had no history of sexual contact
recently.
Q2.  What will be the possible management
options for this case?

In addition, she told you that, she has a plan to
delay a pregnancy for 2 years until she
finished college education.
Q3. What important things do you counsel her
future contraceptive plan?

 Take the pills as soon as possible
Finished all hormonal pills and throw away the 7
non hormonal pills.
Start a new pack the next day
Use backup methods   for the next 7days
In addition if , she had sex in the past 5 days , can
consider ECPs.
Consider method switch.

to identify& manage side effects of COP.

Case2. A 23yrs age woman comes to family
planning clinic with a complain of nausea for
five days.
 
Q1. What information do you want to ask your
client ?

She has no history  any medical and surgical
problems associated with nausea. She has a
regular menstrual cycle.
Q2. What will be your management ?

Explain to the woman that the side effect is
not sign of illness and will disappear after few
months
Tell the woman to come to clinic if nausea
persists
Consider the time she take the pills

At the end of this case study: Students will be
able to identify and manage side effects of
IUCD.

A 30yrs old woman who has an IUCD inserted
5wks back came to F/P clinic with a compliant
of irregular bleeding.
Q1. What additional information do you ask
this client?

The bleeding is heavy and has also lower
abdominal cramp. She has no fever, offensive
vaginal discharge and cervical motion
tenderness. Her V/s are stable. She is not
anemic.
Q2. How do you manage this client?

Reassure that the cramping will diminish
/stop after few months and provide
analgesics
Reassure the heavy bleeding expected side
effect of IUCD in the first 6months of
insertion
Provide iron sulfate 1 tab daily for 3 months
if she is anemic
Follow up after 3 months

live infant before 6 weeks came to post natal
clinic for follow up. to She is currently breast
feeding and she want to delay pregnancy for
next 3 years. She had never used any modern
family planning methods before. She was
linked to the family planning unit.
