RESULT SO (=with the result that) + sentence introduces a result. (=as que) Scott did not want Paul to use his tennis court so he brought an action against him. PURPOSE/FINALITY The expressions below are used to express purpose, to explain why we do things. TO IN ORDER TO SO AS TO (formal) + verb (=para) The plaintiff sued the defendant (in order) to recover damages. The court awarded compensatory damages (in order) to compensate the victims for their loss. The court awarded punitive damages (so as) to deter (= dissuade) other companies from causing similar environmental disasters. SO THAT + sentence (=para que) This expression must be used when the subject of the first part of the sentence is different from the subject in the second part..
