ALCU Background What is the Association of Legal Clinics of Ukraine? the only network of legal clinics in Ukraine. It s a non-governmental organization which aims at the development of legal clinical education and building the network of legal clinics. The ALCU Mission: providing the functioning of legal clinics of high quality in the higher education system in Ukraine. Standards of Operations of Legal Clinics of Ukraine adopted in 2014 Standards are a set of major characteristics inherent in a legal clinic, organization of its operations and activity on providing legal aid and raising legal awareness. What are our quality values List of Principles of Organizational Management: LC must be ruled by salaried staff, get engaged sensible amount of students and competent professors, be visible, informative and cooperative in the University and the local community, had proper recourse support Principles of LC Education: proper (modules and methods) LC course/s in the academic curriculum, regarding LC as a base for student s practice, appreciating the calculated activities of engaged professors Principles of LC Legal Aid: regularly made legal consultations on the basis of supervision, providing adequate quality control and honest statistical analysis Principles of LC Legal Civil Society Education: regularly made different types of legal teaching and informing actions on the basis of staff support, use of modern approach, show honest statistics
Monitoring Instrument 4 levels of quality for the legal clinic: 0-30 % organization that is becoming a legal clinic; 31-60 % legal clinic of basic level; 61-80 % legal clinic that corresponds to the Standards; 81-100% legal clinic of high quality. 7
Legal Clinics Monitoring 13 monitoring visits more than 20% of the ALCU legal clinics 6 LCs are of basic level; 7 meet the Standards Practical results 8
