  2. Athletic Department Philosophy Lawrenceburg High School takes pride in providing opportunities for all student-athletes through the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) sponsored activities. Interscholastic athletics is historically a significant part of the total educational program. They offer opportunity for students to be a part of a team, to serve their school, to represent their community, to enjoy fellowship, and to develop intellectually, physically, and emotionally. We believe that Lawrenceburg High School Athletics program will provide a unifying influence within our student body and between our school and community. The Lawrenceburg athletic family will endeavor to provide each participant with positive experiences that will help them develop their own philosophy toward commitment, responsibility, and loyalty, which will guide them for post-school competition in society. We believe that the will to win is a natural, human trait and entirely desirable, but this urge whether individual or collective, is not to be attained at the price of unfair advantage or gained through violation of established rules and principles. The desire to win is important, but will never outweigh the welfare of the athlete and will be kept in perspective towards the balance of what is good for the team, the school, and the individual. If athletics are to be sponsored by the educational system, then athletics must be educative. The educative process must continue into the realm of responsibility. We cannot escape the thought that responsibility lies with all of us. Responsibility is a big part of athletics at Lawrenceburg High School. Responsibility to one s team, self, and family is the most important aspect of education within the athletic department. Lawrenceburg Tigers Athletics and spectators can be proud of a program that is helping our athletes become the best they can be in many aspects. Through the experiences gained through athletics, each student athlete can reach his/her potential both while in school, and later as a contributing member of society.

  3. Athletic Department Mission Statement Lawrenceburg Community School Corporation recognizes the many positive benefits students may receive through participation in athletic competition and will provide the opportunity for student athletes to develop and grow, through the use of its high school athletic program and respective feeder system. The Lawrenceburg Community School Corporation Athletic Department, its coaches, and its athletes are committed to achieving academic excellence, strengthening personal character, providing leadership in our schools and community, and exhibiting teamwork and sportsmanship at all times.

  4. Athletic Department Purpose Statement Our purpose is to lead with a strong, positive, work ethic that focuses on building the trust, integrity, and moral courage of our school community by displaying the traits of responsibility, patience, selflessness, and resiliency in everything that we do in life.

  5. Athletic Department Expectations of Parents and Fans If you are a parent attending a high school athletic event in 2020-2021, you can help create a positive sporting atmosphere by following these six guidelines from the IHSAA: 1. Act Your Age. You are, after all, an adult. Act in a way that makes your family and school proud. 2. Don t Live Your Life Vicariously Through Your Children. High school sports are for them, not you. Your family s reputation is not determined by how well your children perform on the field of play. 3. Let Your Children Talk to the Coach Instead of You Doing It for Them. High school athletes learn how to become more confident, independent and capable but only when their parents don t jump in and solve their problems for them. 4. Stay in Your Own Lane. No coaching or officiating from the sidelines. Your role is to be a responsible, supportive parent not a coach or official. 5. Remember, Participating in a High School Sport Is Not About Getting a College Scholarship. According to the NCAA, only about 2% of all high school athletes are awarded a sports scholarship, and the total value of the scholarship is only about $18,000. 6. Make Sure Your Children Know You Love Watching Them Play. Do not critique your child s performance on the car ride home. Participating in high school sports is about character development, learning and having fun not winning and losing. Purchasing a ticket to a high school athletic event does not give you the right to be rude, disrespectful or verbally abusive. Cheer loud and be proud, but be responsible and respectful.

  6. Sportsmanship Statement Good sportsmanship between athletes, coaches, game officials, opposing teams, and spectators is one of the most important parts of high school athletics. Judgment calls made by officials, coaches, and student athletes are made in good faith and should be respected. Spectators are encouraged to support your team, but asked to refrain from making inappropriate comments or cheers during the Tigers athletic contests. Lawrenceburg High School hopes you will enjoy our games and show positive support for all student athletes. Please remember that good sportsmanship creates winners for life.
