Induction Timeline Collect induction pack Tuesday 15thJune July stay play dates Thursday 1st& Thursday 8thJuly. 1:1 Meetings July 5thand 6th. Welcome Picnic 16thJuly. 1:1 Meetings continued 1stand 2ndSeptember Summer Born children in for the morning 3rdSeptember. All children in for the mornings 6th& 7thSeptember. All children in from lunch 8thSeptember. All children in full time from 9thSeptember. Please refer to our school ready check list over the Summer break, that will be in your welcome packs.
Helping the Children to settle. Talk to your children about school Drive or walk by the school Wear the uniform and the school shoes Share books about starting school Arrive at school in good time Full time attendance. Let your child know that you are coming back Refer to the transition booklets in your welcome pack
The New EYFS Curriculum 7 areas of learning. 3 Prime Areas Communication and Language Personal Social and Emotional Development Physical Development 4 Specific Areas of Learning Literacy Mathematics Understanding the World Expressive Arts and Design 17 Early Learning Goals most children will reach these by the end of the reception year but some will not. The first 6 weeks will include assessing the children using the National Reception Baseline Assessment.
What will a day in Reception be like? 9am-9:40- register, visual timetable and 1stcarpet session (Topic, Maths or Lit) 9:45-10:25- Free Flow indoor and outdoor areas. 10:30-10:45- Snack and Story time. 10:50-11:25 Free Flow. 11:30-11:55- Phonics. 12-1pm- Lunch 1-1:30- 2ndcarpet session ( Topic, Maths or Lit) 1:45- 2:45 Free Flow 2:50-3:20- reflect on the day, praise children on recognition board and celebrate work from the day, end of day story. 3:30- Home Time- collection from reception gates. Handwriting specific sessions when the children are ready. Planning adjusted to children s interests. We will hear the children read once a week. Guided group reading will happen in the summer term ready for Year 1 transition, 1:1 reading throughout the week until then. Forest School every Friday.
Phonics: Letters and Sounds The document we follow to teach the children letter sounds, high frequency words and tricky words. Phase One We begin and recap this before Phase 2 teaching. Begin at Phase Two and move through to Phase Four at the children s pace. Continues into KS1 Phase 5 and 6. We hope to hold a Phonics workshop for parents.
Reading Books Reading books will be sent home in the first few weeks after starting. At first it will be a book of their choice from our book corner. Children will be given their own reading record. Please write in it when your child has read to you or when you ve discussed their reading book. Once our phonics teaching has begun, we will hear the children read individually once a week. We will write in their diary when their book change day will be. But, please make sure their reading record and book in in school in their book bag daily. Children will bring home phonetic books for them to apply their phonics learning and try to read their books.
Behaviour, Rules, Routines and Expectations. The first half term will be spent settling children in, setting expectations and creating a whole class ethos and culture. Restorative Approach focus primarily on praise and recover. Behaviour policy is available on school website. We will celebrate children s good behaviour and acts of kindness and helpfulness. We will use our Valley Vibe values to encourage and show examples of good behaviour. There will be a Star of the Day awarded each day. There will be a visual recognition board in class for the children.
Celebrating Childrens Learning We will constantly celebrate and share children s learning through: Regular show and tell sessions Displays Sharing work on our Wow Work wall. Head Teacher Gold Stars. Head Teacher Postcards.
Parent Partnership We want you to be very involved with your child s Reception Year! Please do catch us at the end of the day if you had any queries. We would prefer to get the children straight in in the mornings. Please share with us anything you have done at home that means something to your child and we will share and celebrate it at school. Displays in the classroom WOW moments at home. Reading at home with your child is so important. Children will bring home phonics sounds, high frequency words and tricky to practise. Family projects will be sent home occasionally. These could be in line with the rest of the school. Please read the Working Together policy that is on our website and it will be in your packs.
House Keeping Label everything!! Please provide a pair of named wellies to keep in school. Children will need a spare clothes bag to keep in school please label everything! Children will need a named water bottle brought in each day. Children will need to bring their book bag in each day. Children will be offered fruit and milk each day at snack time.
1:1 Meetings in July & September At the meeting we will: Go through what the children will need for September. Talk about your child s interests and what they would like to see out in our provision when they start. Discuss any allergies or anything in particular we need to know about your child. Show the children their tray and peg. Familiarise them with the classroom and the toilets. Talk through what they will do when they arrive at school each morning. Answer any questions you or your child has.
