Prefer Centre- Assessed Grades to Teacher Assessed Grades or DfE Calculated Grades ASCL Guidance on Centre- Assessed Grades (CAGs) Suggested timeline Focus on getting a mark for each student in first instance, and only then begin to look at grading See ASCL document for why that helps both the process within school, but also, by identifying clustering and spread, it should give more accurate grades to pupils right grade to the right pupil 21/09/2024 4
Ofqual will still be making adjustments as announced re severe grading in French and German Important points Advise parents that schools cannot enter into discussion about grading set up Special Consideration process as per exam boards Grading decisions will need more information from Ofqual as to how previous years results should be taken into account Schools will have to submit no earlier than 29th May Results issued to students as published 13th / 20th Aug See ASCL paper for suggestion about how transition matrices can be used to create a starting grade distribution 21/09/2024 5

Looking at the data from subjects - tiering Tiering have described techniques for bringing sets of marks from different papers / tiers into a single mark and rank order using adjustments to trendlines The higher paper marks have been adjusted upwards so that the trendlines match 21/09/2024 7
Looking at the data from subjects - weighting Weightings esp in practical subjects where there may be incomplete NEA Note the percentage weighting for each of the components for the final exam Examine the evidence you have available for each component for this year. Look back at previous years' component marks and analyse them. See which pairs of components give similar results, and note any components which give different results from others 21/09/2024 8
Looking at the data from subjects - weighting In this example in Music, Composition (30%) and Performance (30%) are linked, but Listening (40%) results differ So need to get as good evidence as possible for Listening, whereas any gaps in the other two can be estimated if necessary 21/09/2024 9
Looking at the data from subjects - missing Data is sorted by the sum of the marks in the last 4 components Missing marks. Look at comparable students in the other components where the student does have data Average the score for the comparable students And can then use to estimate missing mark, and get revised total 21/09/2024 10
