“Passing Through”

Jesus was “wearied” at the hottest part of the day
The disciples were shopping / getting needs met
This place wasn’t friendly towards God’s people
The disciples only saw it as a place of business

“Passing Through”
& “Beside The Well”

Jesus was “wearied” at the hottest part of the day
The disciples were shopping / getting needs met
This place wasn’t friendly towards God’s people
The disciples only saw it as a place of business
Jesus saw it as a harvest field
Jesus “MADE ROOM” & “MADE A
DIFFERENCE

#1 BROUGHT A GIFT
If you knew
the gift of God [I’m
offering]
. . . you would have asked
him and he would have
given you
living water”
(4:10)
“For God so loved the world,
He
gave
…” (3:16)

#1 BROUGHT A GIFT
“For it is by grace you have been
saved, through faith—and this not
from yourselves,
it is the gift of God
(Eph 2:8)

Where ever you are
“stuck in life”,
a “gift of life”
needs to happen!!!

#2 OFFERED HOPE
“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again
[temporary answers], but whoever drinks the water
that I give him will never be thirsty again” (4:14)
“true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and
truth, for the Father is seeking such people.” (4:23)
“I who speak to you am he [the savior]” (4:26)

“Praise be to God . . . In his great mercy he
has given us new birth into
a living hope
through the resurrection of Jesus”
(1 Pe 1:3-4)
“you were
redeemed from the empty
[hopeless] way of life handed down to you
from your forefathers . . .[and now] your
hope is in God. (1 Pe 1:18-21)

“For in this hope we were saved. But
hope that is seen is no hope at all.
Who
hopes for what he already has
? But if
we hope for what we do not yet have,
we wait for it patiently.”
 (Ro 8:24-25)

#3 LISTENED WITH GRACE
(Jn 4:17) “You are right in saying, ‘I have
no husband . . . What you have said is
true.”

(Jn 3:17) “For God did not send His Son
into the world to condemn the world . . .”

People who are personally
close, obedient & thankful to
God are gracious people
The way you deal with another person’s
sin says more about what is going on in
you than them

#4 LIVED TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
(
34f)
“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will
of him who sent me and to finish his work
.
Do you not say, ‘Four months more and then
the harvest’?
I tell you, open your eyes and
look at the fields!
They are ripe for harvest.
Even now the reaper draws his wages, even
now he harvests the crop for eternal life”

Slide Note

Good Morning – it is so great to see you

Life is this amazing combination of victories and joy that come from a lifetime of hard work AND victories and joy that come this week because you step out in faith.

Today we are going to read about one of the greatest joys that can happen to you this week if you will step out in faith.

John 4 in your Bible & Page 10 in your newsletter

Read John 4:1-42

Jesus is leaving the Jerusalem temple and the religious capital of His faith.

He is leaving all the religious people who arguing over who is winning

(who has more disciples)

Like church people who care about is their church larger than their friends

– instead of the people who aren’t going anywhere

He is leaving a place where people are spending all their time comparing themselves to each other – and worried about who has more of the same people (how sad)

Jesus was leaving the religious capital – and going home

Going from God’s house (TEMPLE IN JERUSALEM) to His (Peter’s) house (Galilee)

And between his worship and his home – Jesus sees a harvest

His disciples don’t see it.

Jesus sees a holy moment and mission and a holy place to make room

They don’t see this place as a place to make room for the gospel

But Jesus does!

So many times you and I, as his disciples,

are so busy with comparing ourselves & comparing our churches that we miss

God’s mission and holy miracles in where we shop, we play, we do business.

“Comparison is the thief of joy”

The joy of how valuable and loved you are in the Kingdom

The thief of mission (focusing on others’ instead of yours)
