YOUTH STS LESSON 41 YOUTH STS LESSON 41 ISRAEL S MULTIPLICATION ISRAEL S MULTIPLICATION AND OPPRESSION AND OPPRESSION IN EGYPT IN EGYPT TEXT: EXODUS 1:1-22
But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel (Exodus 1:12).
INTRODUCTION INTRODUCTION (EXODUS 1:1 (EXODUS 1:1- -22) 22) In previous studies, we saw the immigration of Jacob and 70 members of his family to Egypt including Joseph. With time, Joseph, his brothers, and the rest of the first- generation immigrants all died in Egypt. In Egypt and according to God s word, the Israelites increased greatly in population and wealth (Genesis 46:3). God s promises of blessings will surely be fulfilled regardless of our environmental situations. A new Pharaoh that did not know Joseph soon ushered the Israelites into another phase in their history. Today s lesson focuses on this new phase and the faithfulness of God during adversities.
POINT 1 POINT 1 GOD MULTIPLIED ISRAEL IN EGYPT GOD MULTIPLIED ISRAEL IN EGYPT ( (EXODUS 1:1-7; GENESIS 46:8-27; DEUTERONOMY 10:22; ACTS 7:14-17; PSALM 105:24) God used a small population of Israelites to make a great nation. Youths should not despise small beginnings, for greatness often begins in a small way. Their greatness became noticeable and attracted oppositions. Satan was the engineer of this opposition. Christian youths should understand that oppositions cannot stop the fulfilment of God s promises in their lives. Do not compromise your faith during oppositions, have faith in God and He will give you victory.
POINT 2 POINT 2 GREAT MISERY OF ISRAELITES IN EGYPT GREAT MISERY OF ISRAELITES IN EGYPT (EXODUS1:8-22; GENESIS 15:12-14; ACTS 7: 18, 19; PSALM 105:25) The new Pharaoh felt threatened by Israel s phenomenal growth due to: Fear of them joining their enemies in battle if war broke out Fear of escaping from Egypt He adopted strategies to oppress them, these include: Appointment of task managers for forced labor Denial of freedom Male children genocide plans These oppressions had some positive effects on the Israelites. It resulted to: Fervent prayers to the God of Abraham for freedom
POINT 2 CONTD. POINT 2 CONTD. GREAT MISERY OF ISRAELITES IN EGYPT GREAT MISERY OF ISRAELITES IN EGYPT ( (EXODUS1:8-22; GENESIS 15:12-14; ACTS 7: 18, 19; PSALM 105:25) The desire to leave Egypt like it is today, for true believers to desire heaven, our eternal abode. The Egyptians recognition of God s supremacy over man. Christian youths should draw closer to God during challenging times. Our challenges are opportunities for God to demonstrate His mighty. power
POINT 3 POINT 3 GODLY MIDWIVES BLESSED IN EGYPT GODLY MIDWIVES BLESSED IN EGYPT (EXODUS 1:12, 17-20; 3:8; 1 CORINTHIANS 10: 13; JOB 5: 19; PSALM 32:7) The Hebrew midwives, Shiphrah and Puah, were commanded by Pharaoh to kill male newborns. Shiphrah and Puah feared God and kept the male children alive. God was happy with them and built houses for them. Daniel, Shedrach, Meshach, Abednego and the apostles obeyed God fearlessly (Daniel 3:1-30; 6:1-28; Acts 4:19). Youths are to obey their parents and constituted authorities in schools, communities, churches etc. so far it does not contradict the Bible. God blesses us when we fear and obey Him. Finally, Christian youths should not bully or oppress anyone, but should be godly examples (Leviticus 25: 17).
What can youths learn from the fulfillment of Gods long time promise to the children of Israel? What lesson can we draw from the multiplication of the Israelites despite their affliction? Mention five methods employed by the Egyptians to oppress the Israelites. QUESTIONS QUESTIONS Mention some positive impact of persecution. Give examples of Bible Characters who rejected ungodly commandments. What should guide Christian Youth s obedience to parents and other constituted authorities?
