  1. Technology in the Criminal Justice Administration Bryant & Stratton College Justice Information Systems Julianna DeWitt 10/08/2021

  2. With this grant I have been given, I would like to take the chance to introduce a new technology for Law Enforcement that I think would benefit the criminal justice system greatly. I would like to introduce the GPS-Dart, which is a dart meant for tracking suspects that flee from crime scenes. Technology Proposal

  3. The use of technology in the criminal justice administration has been evolving more and more each year. When the justice administration was first created, we did not have nearly as much technology as we do now. We used to simply just have police officers in the form of night watch guards and a small group of people meant to punish individuals for committing crimes. Now we have things like security cameras within the courthouses and on our officers' uniforms, walkie-talkies and cell phones for communicating within the departments, and fingerprint identifiers for analyzing evidence. Evolution of Technology

  4. The GPS dart is a dart that gets placed onto a moving vehicle to assist law enforcement officers in locating and catching criminals. The goal for these darts is to avoid car chases between officers and suspects. GPS-Dart

  5. The GPS dart is necessary and would be a great advantage for law enforcement because it could result in the safety of many lives that could have been injured during a police chase. Is the GPS-Dart Necessary?

  6. Police chases happen more often than we would like to think and in almost every chase, an innocent bystander is injured. With the suspects location being able to be shared, it would result in the safety of others. The GPS dart would also be a good advantage because it could save valuable time for officers so that they can focus on helping more people and attending more crime scenes rather than using that time to chase down one suspect. How Could the GPS- Dart be a Good Advantage?

  7. The GPS dart could be challenging to put onto the vehicle before it drives away and could also potentially lead an officer into more danger if the suspect is aware that their location is being tracked. To avoid these disadvantages, officers could be as vague as possible when shooting the dart and should always have another individual in the vehicle with them or alert other officers of the suspect's whereabouts to ensure they have the backup that is necessary. Could the GPS-Dart Have Disadvantages? Could they be Avoided?

  8. A suspect could potentially see the dart as a threat to their privacy if they were aware their location was being shared, but if they have already committed a crime, they most likely already lost their rights to their privacy and should have just gone with the officer rather than fleeing the scene. The dart could also be beneficial to the fleeing suspect's safety because it would avoid the chance of them getting hurt if they were to be involved in a police chase. Possible Ethical Issues?

  9. Law Enforcement needs new technology as it keeps evolving, so what better technology to introduce than one that saves the lives of police officers, suspects or criminals, and innocent bystanders? The GPS-Dart is greatly beneficial to the criminal justice system and the public with many great advantages. Conclusion

  11. This project helped me to learn about all the recent technologies entering the criminal justice system and gave me the opportunity to learn about a specific technology of my choosing for the department of my choosing. This project taught me what a body camera, drone, and social media will do for law enforcement which inspired me to research the GPS-Dart. This project taught me what body scanners and video surveillance will do for the corrections. This project taught me what electronic monitoring and forensic evidence will do for the courts. This project helped me learn about what ethics are acceptable or not for each technology in every department. These skills and the knowledge I gained will be beneficial to my future career because I now know how to form an argument relating to introducing something new to an employer and co-workers. I also know how to back up information I have found on the argument I have formed. Reflection
