2018 DECEMBER RETREAT
BIBLE DOCTRINE SESSION 2

29-12-2018

INTRODUCTION

In this session, we will look at practical doctrines that guide our
devotion and duty. They touch on our profession of faith, the
sacraments, further detailing of our foundational experiences, the
expression of our faith in practical Christian service, and the
benefits that Christ’s redemption brings to us.
BIBLE DOCTRINE 8: WATER BAPTISM

Water Baptism is essential to our obedience after salvation. It is by
one immersion (not three), “in the name of the Father, and of the
Son, and of the Holy Ghost,” as Jesus commanded.
QUESTION 1:
What are the necessary requirements for water
baptism?
 – Mark 16:16; Acts 2:37,38,41; 8:36-39
a
; John 3:22,23
QUESTION 2:

What is the right mode of water baptism?
Matthew 28:19; Romans 6:4,5
BIBLE DOCTRINE 9: THE LORD’S SUPPER

The Lord’s Supper was instituted by Jesus Christ so that all believers
might partake thereof regularly, to “shew the Lord’s death till He
come.” The emblems used are unleavened bread and the juice of
the fruit of the vine. Anyone who eats and drinks unworthily brings
damnation, punishment and chastisement upon himself.
QUESTION 1:
What is the importance of the Lord’s supper?
 – 1
Corinthians 10:16,17; 11:24-26
QUESTION 2:

What is the right attitude at the Lord’s table?
– 1
Corinthians 5:7,8; 10:21,22; 11:27-29
BIBLE DOCTRINE 10: ENTIRE SANCTIFICATION

Entire Sanctification is a definite act of God’s grace, subsequent to
the New Birth, by which the believer’s heart is purified and made
holy. It cannot be attained progressively by works, struggle or
suppression, but by faith in the sanctifying blood of Jesus Christ.
Holiness of life and purity of heart are central to Christian living.
QUESTION 1:
Why is holiness of life essential?
 – Matthew 5:8,48;
Hebrews 12:14-17; 1 Peter 1:13-16
QUESTION 2:

How can the one be sanctified?
– Matthew 5:6;
John 17:16,17; Hebrews 13:11-13
BIBLE DOCTRINE 11: HOLY GHOST BAPTISM

The Baptism in the Holy Ghost is the enduement with power from
on high upon the sanctified believer. It is the “promise of the
Father”. The gift is accompanied by the initial evidence of speaking
an unlearned language (i.e. in tongues) as the Spirit gives utterance.
QUESTION 1:
What is the essence of the baptism in the Holy
Spirit?
 – Acts 1:8; John 14:16,17,26; 16:12-14
QUESTION 2:

How do we receive the Spirit’s baptism?
– John
7:37-39; Acts 2:1-4,38,39; 15:8,9
BIBLE DOCTRINE 12: DIVINE HEALING

Redemption from the curse of the law, healing of sickness and
disease as well as continued health are provided for all people
through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ.
QUESTION 1:
What are necessary conditions for divine healing
and health?
 – Exodus 15:26; Psalm 103:2-5; John 5:14
QUESTION 2:

How can one be healed today?
– Isaiah 38:1-5;
Mark 16:17,18; James 5:14,15
BIBLE DOCTRINE 13: PERSONAL EVANGELISM

Personal evangelism is a God-given and God-ordained ministry for
every believer. Jesus commanded, and God requires every believer
to be a compassionate and faithful soul-winner, bringing others to
Christ.
QUESTION 1:
 Why is personal evangelism important?
 – Matthew
28:19,20; Mark 16:15,16; Romans 10:13,14; Daniel 12:2,3
QUESTION 2:

Where and how are we expected to evangelise?
Luke 14:23; Acts 5:42; Jude 22,23
BIBLE DOCTRINE 14: MARRIAGE

Marriage is binding for life. Polygamy is contrary to the New
Testament dispensation. It is sinful to divorce and remarry while the
first companion lives. Restitution of wrong marriage must be done
without delay. Conversion is not complete without this!
QUESTION 1:
What are God’s standards in marriage?
 – Mark
10:6-9; Romans 7:2,3; 2 Corinthians 6:14; Hebrews 13:4
QUESTION 2:

What are comforts and duties of Christian
marriage?
– Psalm 128:1-6; Ephesians 5:22-33; 1 Peter 3:1-7

CONCLUSION

The believer should identify
publicly with Jesus by
water baptism and remember the precious price
He paid for his salvation at the communion table.
He should consecrate his life to receive inner
sanctification,
Holy Ghost baptism, healing and
health. It is the believer’s duty and privilege to
labour for the salvation of others and govern
his/her marriage by God’s unchanging standard.
