  5. School Uniform All children were well dressed in the correct uniform last week Name all clothes PE kit dark shorts/trousers, white t-shirt, sports socks, trainers Bring bookbags everyday. Bring a water bottle everyday.

  6. Weekly activities Weekly activities Wednesday Monday Tuesday Thursday Friday 1:00-2:00 ICT Octopus 1:00-2:00 Whale Music 2:25- 3:00PE (Both) 2:25-3:00 PE (Octopus) 1:45-2:20 PE (Whale) PE KIT Black shorts or leggings White t shirt or polo shirt Trainers

  7. Homework This term we will not be giving homework in a homework book. We will be sending 2 reading books home on a Friday and will need them back by Tuesday. Every Friday we will send spellings home and the children will be tested on them on a Wednesday.

  8. Reading at home Please read with your child daily In Autumn term we will give children 2 books to take home every Friday which they need to bring back on Tuesday. The children are in different phonics groups They will have a phonics book to take home every week this must come back on a Tuesday to be given new ones on a Friday

  9. Phonics Will still be taught every day for half an hour Children will have books to take home they must be returned every day The children will take part in lots of phonics activities throughout guided reading sessions At the end of year 1 there is a National phonics test The children have to read 40 words the pass mark has been 32 for the past 4 years. We will update you every half term on what group your child is in and what you can be doing to help them.

  10. Handwriting https://www.teachhandwriting.co.uk/ In year 1 we teach pre cursive handwriting The children will have handwriting sessions 3 times a week They will write every day and still work on their handwriting within literacy sessions The letters they have practised that week will be in their homework to practice at home.

  11. Maths Within 10 number bonds at speed Additon and subtraction with 10 and 20 2D and 3D shapes Place Value Doubles/halves

  13. Rewards and Systems Kindness award Star of the week (In class assembly) Sport certificates Handwriting super star in handwriting sessions Spelling certificates Race to reading Homework certificates half termly Star stickers for star vocabulary Table points

  14. Common Exception Words Will be sent home as first spellings of the year. Expect to see them regularly throughout the year.

  15. How you can help at home: Maths with parents website. Phonics activities Reading at home Limit screen time. Play games. Be enthusiastic show an interest in what your child has learnt Involve them in day to day life/routines shopping, cooking. http//:www.npc.ie
