  2. WHAT IS DUAL CREDIT? Opportunity for high school students to take college level courses at their campus Academic core courses are transferable to Texas public universities and some out of state colleges Grades earned in a DC class go on 2 transcripts. Your high school transcript and your HCC college transcript

  3. CLASSES TO BE OFFERED AT ELKINS English 4 100 spots earn 6 credits US History 90 spots earn 6 credits US Gov 60 spots earn 3 credits College Algebra 90 spots earn 3 credits This math class is for students NOT going into a STEM or medical program in college

  4. WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO BE ABLE TO TAKE A DUAL CREDIT CLASS? Students must meet TSI requirements for dual credit EOC English 2 minimum score of 4000 (Any English based course) EOC Algebra 1 minimum score of 4000 (Any math- based course) PSAT 10th/11th460 verbal and 510 math SAT a minimum of 480 verbal and 530 math ACT 23 composite with a 19 in the English section and 19 math section If students don t meet these requirements, they may test at HCC to determine if they meet TSI or college readiness standards virtual testing is an option. Ms Powis will let you know if you need to test and set it up for you.

  5. HOW DO I GET STARTED? APPLY TO HCC What do I do next?? What do I do next?? Look for the email sent out via Naviance once course selection is over on February 6th. Specific instructions and forms will be attached. All documents must be submitted directly to Ms Powis do NOT respond to the Naviance email. Your forms will not be received by anyone if you do. When completing the HCC application, please be sure to use your SSN we have noticed a problem in processing the applications when it is not used. If you do not have one, HCC will assign a P# in its place.

  6. Once you complete the HCC application, you will receive a 9 digit ID# called a W# via email within 24-48 hours from HCC. You must email this # along with the waiver and student commitment forms to Ms Powis no later than May 15 no later than May 15th HARD deadline set by HCC and there are no exceptions. This makes your part complete unless you need to test. You will not be given a seat until you have tested and meet the college readiness requirements. Please be aware that the DC classes are capped by HCC and there are limited spots, so seats will be given on a first come first serve basis. If you do not get your part completed and sent to Ms Powis by 5/15 or EARLIER, you will lose out on this opportunity!   7. DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR A DUAL CREDIT CLASS? All students in the HCC tax zone can participate in DC courses for FREE! If you live outside of this area, there is a $65 fee per course per semester. All students must pay for books. Each course instructor will inform students which books are required.

  8. CAN I DROP A DUAL CREDIT CLASS? Yes, there are 2 specific drop deadlines, which will be posted in Schoology. Please note that there are 2 different types of drops . The DROP deadline is 10 days from start of class nothing will show on the HCC transcript. The next is a WITHDRAWAL, which is later into the class, and will show as a W (withdrawal) on the HCC transcript. You have only 6 total W s in your entire college career so think about whether or not these classes are best for you.
