The Half A Game Initiative for the 2017-18 season aims to provide every Mini and Junior rugby player with a minimum of half a game in each fixture. Resources and support are available to clubs, coaches, referees, parents, and players to facilitate the implementation of this initiative and promote inclusive participation in rugby.

HALF A GAME SEASON 2017-18
Half a Game Initiative What does it mean? We have made a pledge to guarantee a minimum of half a game of rugby to every Mini and Junior player in each age group for every fixture.
Half a Game Initiative Why are we doing it? To give every player, every opportunity to play and develop To ensure that we are creating the right environment for players to flourish From a long-term club perspective You ve got to spend time developing all players so they are still going to be playing once they reach senior level in your club. Half a Game Initiative As we embark on a new and exciting season, all U6s to U11s will be granted the opportunity to take part in a minimum of Half A Game; for U12s to U16s equal play is expected and it is recommended for U19s. In order to help you deliver this the following resources are available? Half a game resources and information are on https://www.wrucoachinglocker.co.uk/ with some frequently asked questions. Support is on offer to the club, coach & referee, parent and player with specific information via the locker.

Half a Game Initiative How can we ensure that we have enough playing opportunities for everyone? Instead of playing club v club Traditional Fixtures, Mini Round Robins every week are the best way to ensure that there is enough game time each week for everyone, through either; Monthly Festivals Matrix Weekly/Bi Weekly Mini Festival matrix Sourcing the local 3G and pooling teams together share Facility costs to guarantee games in adverse weather
Stand Alone Fixture Guidelines:- U7, U8 & U9 10 Minutes each way U10 15 Minutes each way U11 20 Minutes each way Every Player gets to play a minimum of a game
Mini Round Robin Guidelines:- 4-6 teams turn up at a venue and it lasts for 1hr 30mins to 2hrs U7, U8 & U9 10 Minute Games Straight Through (Game time limit is 30mins per player) U10 15 Minute Games Straight Through (Game time limit is 45mins per player) U11 20 Minute Games Straight Through (Game time limit is 45mins per player) Every Player gets to play a minimum of 1.5 games Teams can be grouped on Ability, or even squad size so that larger teams can duplicate the fixtures
All Day Festival Guidelines:- Large number of teams turn up to one venue and event runs all day U7, U8 & U9 10 Minute Games Straight Through (Game time limit is 40mins per player) U10 15 Minute Games Straight Through (Game time limit is 60mins per player) U11 20 Minute Games Straight Through (Game time limit is 60mins per player) Every Player gets to play a minimum of 2 games Teams can be grouped on Ability, or even squad size so that larger teams can duplicate the fixtures
