  3. Volunteers Muhammad Achour Byron Smith Niamh Phelan Muhammad is a Syrian architect who believes that Art and Design are twin aims to make life better and more beautiful. He studied architecture in Aleppo, Syria graduating in 2007, and now works at DCU as a teaching assistant. Byron is passionate about finding people centric solutions to business and societal problems. With a background in finance and accounting, Byron provides invaluable advice to entrepreneurs at the company formation stage. Niamh is a technologist, specialising in Data and Analytics, and has run her own consultancy business for 10 years. She has degree in Computer Science and an MSc. in Management Science. Niamh mentors technology interns and supports business with strategy, technology, government supports and social media.

Back to Work Enterprise Allowance (BTWEA) The Process Keep the following portion of your social welfare payment 100% for the 1st year 75% for the 2nd year To qualify you must: - Be on a Social Welfare Payment * continuously for at least 9 months (234 days). - Be getting either of these payments continuously for 12 months (312 days), and have worked a maximum of 30 days in this time More information: www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/social_welfare_payments_and_work/back_ to_work_enterprise_allowance.html

  6. Back to Work Enterprise Allowance (BTWEA) The Process First speak to your Social Welfare Case Officer! I am thinking about starting my own business. Have you any information about the Back to Work Enterprise Allowance? I think I will need support from social welfare while I am starting my business. If they agree you could qualify, they will give you form BTW 2. See example. The Back to Work Enterprise Allowance is a discretionary payment and your Social Welfare Case Officer will decide if it will be awarded.

Prepare your business: While you are waiting for BTWEA to be approved: Work on your business plan Complete a Local Enterprise Office Start your Own Business Course Do a 1-1 meeting with the LEO Engage with Dublin City of Sanctuary/ Dignity Partnership/Irish Refugee Council on starting your own business. Research suppliers, equipment, customers, branding, web site, social media, phone line etc. These steps will make it more likely that the Case Officer will approve your BTWEA. They need to be confident that you will launch a successful business and move permanently off social welfare.   8. Enterprise Support Grants The Process After your business is set up, you can apply to your Social Welfare Case Officer for a grant. Once approved, you can then purchase the item using your business bank account. Send the receipt to Social Welfare and they will transfer the grant to your business bank account.   9. Summary: 1. Talk to Social Welfare Case Officer *before* starting your business 2. Case Officer will give you a form to Apply for the BTWEA (See Example Form) 3. While you are waiting prepare your business 4. Case Officer approves BTWEA. 5. Register as a Sole Trader/Private Ltd Company/CLG. (www.cro.ie) 6. Register for VAT (www.revenue.ie) 7. Open a business bank account 8. Get Sum Up or similar to take card payments. 9. Start Trading, keep all receipts and keep a record of invoices/receipts.You will need these to do accounts in Year 2. 10. Apply for Enterprise Support Grants.
