Visa For shorter visits (up to 90-days), a visa is required and the application is made at a local embassy. This also applies for students that are not enrolled at the Swedish university/institution. Sandwich students registered in Sweden Students on sandwich program that are registered at the Swedish university should apply for a residence permit for studies. Validity 3 months to 4 years General rules At least 50 % of the time has to be spent in Sweden Each visit outside Sweden must not exceed 25% of the permit period Each period for the residence permit has to start and end with a visit in Sweden. A residence permit cannot be valid during a longer period than the validity period of the holders passport. Visiting researchers / Post Docs A visiting researcher who has been invited by a Swedish institution to conduct research in Sweden. Permit can be valid for up to 4 years, but it requires that you are full-time in Sweden during the validity period. The application to the Embassy/Migration Agency has to include: A Letter of admission/invitation from the hosting Swedish university/institution A Letter of Support and an Insurance Certificate from ISP (Use Request form) A passport valid for the whole period for the Residence permit Any other document required by the Swedish Migration Agency as indicated on their website.

How to request Letter of Support and Insurance certificate from ISP 1. Fill the Request form for Letter of Support and Insurance certificate within Sida s bilateral programs 2. Get all the required signatures on the form 3. Send the signed Request form to ISP allowances@isp.uu.se together with the Letter of admission/invitation from the hosting Swedish institute for handling 4. ISP issues a student the Letter of Support and the Insurance certificate 5. Allow at least 3 working days for ISP
How to request subsistence allowance A request has to be submitted for each separate visit or prolongation of stay in Sweden. 1. Fill and send the signed Request form to ISP (allowances@isp.uu.se) 2. Confirm arrival to Sweden with a copy of boarding pass 3. Disbursement of subsistence allowance will be done only while the participant/student is in Sweden. Any changes in the planned stay in Sweden, ISP has to be informed.
Payment of subsistence allowance Payments are made on arrival of student and then once a month (around 25thof each month) either by deposit at: Bank account in a Swedish bank ICA Maestro card Full one-month: before or on the 15thof the month. Half month: on or after the 16thof the month OR if students leaves Sweden before or on the 15thof the month Plan wisely and according to your budget!!
ICA maestro card ICA Maestro card For students without a Swedish bank account Cards will be sent to the Swedish supervisor with clear instructions that needs to be followed Transfers to the card can be made only by Uppsala University The card can be used all over the world in shops that are connected to Maestro Cash withdrawal are free of cost Mini-internetbank available to see balances and withdrawals The card is valid for two years, keep the card and pin-code between all your visits On loosing the card or forgetting the Pin-code, a fee of 314 SEK shall be charged for a new card.
Swedish bank account Documents required to open a Swedish bank account Identity proof Swedish personal/coordination number (https://www.skatteverket.se/) Proof of regular income - Can take up 2-3 months to open a bank account, then ICA card is the best option.
Insurance All students are insured via Kammarkollegiet Insurance covers: - Emergency medical care - Emergency dental care (max 3000 SEK per year) - Prescribed medicines - Property coverage (not exceeding 20 000 SEK) In case of illnesses, contact the nearest hospital /medical center. Payments can normally be made via cash, credit/debit card or you may ask for an invoice Fill in the claim form Scan copy of form and recepits are enough Kammarkollegiet will decide on reimbursement The full Terms and conditions for the insurance can be found at: www.isp.uu.se/allowance
