One half of all Americans are registered to vote Some Presidential elections are decided by 30% of the population The last Presidential election was won by votes in the Electoral College, not by the popular vote. Gerrymandering of district lines can sway elections to one political party or another. Voter suppression has increased significantly since Shelby vs. Holder was decided by the Supreme court in 2013. This allowed states that had a history of suppression to avoid scrutiny by the federal courts. 3

IN MICHIGAN: You can REGISTER to vote if you will be 18 years old by the next election. Be a resident of Michigan and at least a 30 day resident of your city or township by election day. All registered voters in Michigan can now vote before Election Day using what s called an absentee ballot. You can vote by absentee ballot through the mail, without leaving your home. You can also go to your city or township clerk s office or drop box to return your absentee ballot. You don t need an excuse or a reason. Registered voters can request an absentee ballot online at https://mvic.sos.state.mi.us/AVApplication/Index before October 30. Call your city or township clerk and ask that an application be mailed to you. 10

If you re registering another way, in order to vote in the November 3, 2020 election, your completed voter registration application must be received or postmarked by October 19, 2020. 11
