  1. FRIDAY 22ND JANUARY Y6 DISTANCE LEARNING

  2. Good morning boys and girls.

  3. We will put a daily PowerPoint on the Rooks Nest website describing all that day s learning. We will also give an indication of what we are expecting in terms of the length of the work and the time we expect it to take you. You can either write your work out on paper (taking a photograph or scanning it) or do it using Word. When you have finished the work, you can e mail it in to Mrs Harper or Mrs Dove on their emails below. lharper@rooksnestacademy.co.uk sdove@rooksnestacademy.co.uk We will send comments back and look forward to hearing from you.

  4. Starter 5 to 10 minutes depending on how long your conversation is. Answer the question and then please write a correctly punctuated conversation including a question (include a question and a reply).

  7. Aim: to identify and calculate fraction, decimal and percentage equivalents. Please see the video link which will explain how to calculate fraction, decimal and percentage equivalents. We have also sent you the slides incase you have trouble with the video. https://vimeo.com/492474663 When you have watched the video, please complete the Whiterose maths worksheet task.

  8. Literacy THIS LESSON SHOULD TAKE YOU ABOUT 45 MINUTES TO DO. REMEMBER TO READ THROUGH AND CHECK YOUR WRITING.

  9. LITERACY Today, we would like you to continue to practise your descriptive writing. On the next slide there is a picture that tells a story. Think about how you can start the story with a description of the setting, using all the techniques you practised yesterday: Powerful synonyms Expanded noun phrases Figurative language You will also need to answer questions: What sort of story genre do you want to write mystery, ghost, adventure, fairy? Who is the girl? Why is she out on the grass? This will help you to write the start of your story. If you want you can use the story mountain to help you to plan.

  10. We have left these slides from yesterday on to help you. 1) Powerful synonyms for boring words We over use verbs like say and go . Your first job is to list as many synonyms for these verbs as you can (you could use an online thesaurus to help you if you are stuck). Underline your favourites and send your list in to us.

  11. 2) Powerful adjectives in expanded noun phrases Remember to make your writing more exciting and descriptive by adding adjectives to your nouns. Be careful to mix in some simpler sentences however to vary your writing. Find adjectives to describe the nouns below before writing a descriptive sentence for each noun. Mosque daffodil waves (on the sea) mountain You could add a prepositional phrase (behind the moon, over the clock, in the middle of the field) to add interest to your sentences.

  12. 3) Figurative language Figurative language includes these elements: Similes compare something or someone to something else to make the description more powerful. The boy ran as fast as a cheetah. Like a bouncing ball, the girl careered through the crowd. Alliteration is where words next to each other start with the same letter. The smooth, shiny snake slithered through the undergrowth. Tall, towering trees tottered on the edge of the cliff. Personification makes something that is not alive sound or do something like a person. The trees marched along the skyline. At the edge of the forest, the rock squatted like an evil toad (this contains a simile as well). Metaphor makes description more powerful by describing something as something else. The snow was a thick, white blanket over the field. The moon was a glowing, yellow face in the sky.

  13. Music Mrs Wilcox has put up five Music videos onto the Year 6 home learning pages. Today, we would like you to do one of these activities.
