13. Requirements for Graduation Entering at the sophomore level: grades of 2.2 or more in at least 50 credits in courses numbers 200 or above. Entering at the freshman level: grades of 2.2 or above in at least 12 additional credits of courses numbered 100 or above. Students must have a grade of 2.2 or more in CMPS 200 before they are allowed to enroll in CMPS 212, and a grade of 2.2 (or 70) in CMPS 212 before they are allowed to enroll in most CMPS courses numbered 230 and above Computer science majors are required to maintain an average grade of at least 2.2 across all computer science courses to avoid departmental probation and majorless status 13

Credit Load At any point during one regular (i.e. Fall or Spring) semester, you may not register for less than 12 credits or more than 17 credits A student cannot withdraw or be forced to withdraw if the student s course load shall fall below 12 credits. Any lesser or greater load will have to be justified via a petition to the Dean s office The petition may or may not be accepted Attained an average in the last two semesters > 3.2 Completed English communication skills requirements Last semester in which they are expected to graduate During any summer semester, you may not register for more than 9 credits

15. Exceptions to the Rules on Credit Load Students on first academic probation: will not be allowed to register for extra credit load. The load that this category of students may carry is 12-17 credits. Students continued on academic probation: will not be allowed to register for extra credit load. The load that this category of students may carry is 12-13 credits. Students in their last semester: are allowed to take any number of credits necessary for their graduation provided they are not on probation and their load does not exceed 18 credits.

Deans Honor List, Distinction, and High Distinction Dean s Honor List : Following the results of one semester, a student must : Be carrying at least 12 credits Not be placed on probation, Have passed all the courses Have attained a semester average >= 3.7. To graduate with distinction, a student must have passed all the courses and attained an overall average of >= 3.7. To graduate with high distinction, a student must have passed all the courses and attained an overall average of >= 4.0.

17. Course Withdrawal & Repeating a Course A student may withdraw from only one required course per semester or any number of elective courses down to a minimum of 12 credits (but no less) before withdrawal deadline. A student who fails a required course must repeat the course at the earliest opportunity. No course may be repeated more than three times (including withdrawals.) When a course is repeated, the highest grade is counted towards the student s overall GPA. All previous grades remain in their records, though.

18. Incompletes Incomplete course work will be reported as an I followed by a letter grade reflecting the evaluation of the student available at the end of the semester. For securing permission to complete the work for a course, a student must talk to the Instructor and petition to complete the work (online and submitting a solid justification) within two weeks from the date of the scheduled final exam for the course. If petition is accepted, coursework must be completed within one month of the start of the next regular semester. If petition is not submitted in due time (two weeks after the scheduled date of the final exam) or if the request is turned down by the Student Academic Affairs Committee, the I on the reported course grade will be dropped. The available letter grade becomes the final grade in the course.

19. Placement on and Removal of Academic Probation Departmental Probation: If average in major courses drops below 2.2 in their first two semesters in the major Departments will drop students from their major in case if the major courses average is < 2.2 at the end of their third regular semester in the major. Faculty and University Probation: Entering at the freshman level are placed on academic probation if: Their overall average is less than 1.9 at the end of their second regular semester, Their Semester average is less than 2.0 at the end of their third or fourth regular semester, excluding the summer term Their Semester average is less than 2.1 at the end of their fifth or sixth regular semester, excluding the summer term or if Semester average is less than 2.2 in any subsequent semester excluding the summer term. Entering at the sophomore level are placed on academic probation if Their overall average is less than 2.0 at the end of their second regular semester, Their semester average is less than 2.1 at the end of their third or fourth regular semester, excluding the summer term Their semester average, less than 2.2 in any subsequent semester excluding the summer term.

20. Placement on and Removal of Academic Probation For evaluation purposes, in all cases, the minimum number of credits at the end of the second regular semester should be 24, and 12 in each subsequent fall or spring semester. Courses/credits taken during a summer term are counted toward the semester average of the next regular semester. If the number of credits taken in any one regular semester is fewer than 12 (for approved reasons), courses/credits taken during that semester are counted toward the semester average of the next regular semester.

21. Placement on and Removal of Academic Probation Removal of Probation: Probation is removed when the student attains a semester average which exceeds the applicable averages indicated above. Probation Duration: Probation should be removed within two regular semesters, excluding summer, after the student is placed on probation, or when the student completes his or her graduation requirements Students on probation are advised to repeat courses in which they have obtained failing grades or low grades.

22. Dismissal and Readmission A student is dismissed/dropped from the faculty for any of the following reasons: If overall average is less than 1.0 at the end of the second regular semester. If academic probation is not cleared within two regular semesters after being put on probation. If student is placed on academic probation for a total of four regular, not necessarily consecutive, semesters. If student is deemed unworthy to continue for professional or ethical reasons. A student will normally be considered for readmission after spending a year at another recognized institution of higher education and presenting a satisfactory record and recommendation. Exceptions may be made for students who left the University for personal or health reasons.
