Is it a word that means different things to different people?

What do people get from their family?
(For example, emotional support, friendship.)

In your groups, write down as many chores as you can that need
to be done on a day-to-day basis. For example… wash the

Who would usually be responsible for doing these tasks, an adult
or a child?

In what situations might this change?

As children get older they may take on responsibility for
household chores.
As children mature they may want to take on more responsibilities
to gain pocket money.
When a parent becomes ill (with flu for example), young people
will often do extra things around the house to help them.

Changing roles within a family

What tasks do you think a young carer might have to do in these
circumstances?

But, family roles can also change because young people have to
take on caring roles.
Siblings may have a physical, developmental or mental health
issue which requires a lot of parental attention.
Parents may suffer from an illness or disability which means they
may require support around the house or extra care themselves.
