  2. Objectives: Participants will: Discuss the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child model. Explore the characteristics of effective sex education programs that schools can impact. Analyze the intersections between these two resources. Apply their conclusions by assessing samples of sex education curricula. Identify connections among sample sex education curricula, Common Core Standards, school climate, and family engagement.

  7. Characteristics of Effective School-Based Sex Education Programs Form a trio. Read one section of Dr. Kirby s document: 1.Process of Developing 2.Contents of Curriculum 3.Process of Implementing Identify which characteristics schools can impact. Report to each other. Large group discussion.

  9. Grab Your Shovel Form six groups. Each group will read and discuss one document: Risk and protective factors for pregnancy and STIs Common Core Standards for ELA-Grade 4 Common Core Standards for ELA-Grade 5 Common Core Standards for ELA-Grade 6 National Sexuality Education Standards by Grade 5 National Sexuality Education Standards by Grade 8 Each group will review one curriculum. Look for intersections between sex education curriculum and the document. After 15 minutes, report out to large group
