ESA Cross-Support Activities Report October 2021
October 2021 witnessed various cross-support activities by ESA, including data exchange with JPL for flux calculation comparison, ESA-JAXA cross-support validation, and investigations into flux comparison issues. The report also highlights inconsistencies found in JAXA OBS files and provides updates on cross-support activities planned with JPL for the future, such as operational campaigns with DART and Solar Orbiter.

Current ESA activities GAIA BepiColombo Venus and Mercury swing-bys supported in 2021 (25 + 23 passes) Data exchange with JPL for flux calculation comparison ESA-JAXA Cross-support validation Solar Orbiter Venus and Earth swing-bys supported in 2021 (19 + 5 passes) PN DOR correlator software to support REC 2.5.7B under testing 2
ESA-JPL flux comparison BepiColombo passes acquired by both ESA and JPL from same stations ESA using TTCP-TTCP and JPL using POLR-POLR Both on CEB-MLG during Bepi Solar Conjunction passes Investigation on data acquired on DOY 276 & 277 not concluded Possible issues related with saturation/quantization Different parameters used? 3
ESA-JAXA cross-support validation (JAXA obs file) JAXA OBS file inconsistencies with the Blue Book 506.1-B-1: SCAN_NUM only one digit integer (1, 2, 3, etc.), it should be 3 digit integer (001, 002, 003, etc.) START_TIME and STOP_TIME are in YYYY-MM-DD format, they should be in YYYY-DDD format 4
ESA-JAXA cross-support validation (Results) Bepi Colombo passes on CEB-NNO acquired by JAXA in Usuda and Misasa Both X-band and Ka-band (on Cebreros and Misasa) DOY 180 Only one S/C and one Quasar scan available, but correlation successful on all available scans (poor accuracy in Ka-band) DOY 198 MGA antenna (no Ka-band): Quasar Correlation not successful DOY 216 JAXA Scan 6&7 missing (too low elevation), ESA Scan 2 not complete in CEB X-band OK (pending FD feedback) Ka-band Not OK JAXA results? 6
Future cross-support activities Operational cross-support campaign with JPL for DART (2022) Both ESA and mixed baselines passes foreseen (TBC) Server for data exchange is under preparation Additional tests for correlated flux analysis using Solar Orbiter (TBC) New validation campaign with JAXA? 7
